The 66th Republic Day celebrations saw the representation of students, office staff and faculties alike at the Suchana Bhavan campus of IIM Ranchi. Among those present were Prof. Pradip Kumar Bala (Dean, Academics), Mr. J. Gabriel (Administrative Officer) and few faculty members, along with students of all batches. The entire congregation gathered in front of the flag pole at 9 am in the morning to celebrate this auspicious day by hoisting the National Flag of India.
The flag hoisting was performed by the Chief Guest for the occasion, Prof. Bala, who later gave an impactful speech on the history of India’s fight for freedom and the prevailing socio-economic conditions in the country. This was followed with a speech by Mr. J. Gabriel, who inspired the students to take their beloved country to new heights through their dedication and service. He implored everyone present there to do their bit in achieving a brighter, better and more advanced India.
The celebrations reached a culmination when Deepak Nair, 1st year PGDM student, sang a heart-wrenching and soulful version of the iconic song ‘Ae Mere Watan Ke Logo’ in his mellifluous voice, which brought tears to many in the gathering and ignited sparks of patriotism in one and all. The students then headed back to their campus to participate in further activities specially planned for this very day, including a Blood Donation drive at the hostel premises of Khelgaon organized by Samarpan (the CSR club of IIM Ranchi).
In their constant pledge to give back to the society, Samarpan, the CSR club of IIM Ranchi, partnered with JSACS, Round Table India, VBDA Ranchi, FIBD and Life Savers to organize a blood donation drive on the same day. The blood donation drive saw some 48 donors donating their blood for the noble cause. All donors went through pre-medical check-ups such as Blood Pressure, Haemoglobin and Body Mass Index checks, before donating their blood. Post blood donation, the donors were provided with filling refreshments. The donated units of blood have been handed over to the hospital. The IIM Ranchi students participated whole-heartedly in the blood donation drive and were constantly cheered and motivated by their friends, which kept the spirits of these donors high throughout the day. This was the second blood donation drive held at IIM Ranchi in the academic year, 2014-2015.
Thereafter, it was the Cultural Committee's turn to add the fun element to Republic Day celebrations by organizing a successful treasure hunt event, Perplex’d. The hunt was filled with interesting clues, Sudoku solving, puzzles and riddles and so on. In all, 11 teams, consisting of three members each, participated in the game. While some of them had a quick start, others stayed “perplex’d” trying to make something out of the clues. In a record time of less than two hours, Team Chicas (Saket Kamboj, Saurabh Jain and Sumit Anand) prevailed over the rest of the teams.
Overall, all the teams enjoyed themselves thoroughly throughout the game, the Cultural Committee’s efforts certainly paid dividends and thus came to an end yet another eventful and well-celebrated Republic Day at the IIM Ranchi hostel premises.
