As the years passed by, I started to realize that Aditya Birla group's presence has always been "BIG" in my life. I understood that the ABG has left its footprint from the smallest to the largest segments of the industry. Aditya Birla Group, the Indian conglomerate, with its presence in 34 countries, has now shifted from being the architect of modern India to a new global level. The group employs 120000 people from 42 nationalities. A group with such rich diversity, ABG has been built on a strong foundation of stakeholder value creation through its core values: Integrity, Commitment, Passion, Seamlessness and Speed.
The world leader in cement, aluminium and can recycler, ABG has touched almost all sectors of the industry. Different brands from ABG have a deep-rooted connection with every person. A feeling of nostalgia flows in when I try to recollect the fond memories of my undergrad and MBA interviews. That feeling of self-confidence I felt when I wore the well-tailored Van Heusen suit to the interviews is something inexplicable. Similarly, the different premium apparel brands under ABG including Allen Solly, Peter England, Louis Philippe, etc have always instilled a feeling of quality and comfort in all the users.
From financial services to telecom services, branded apparel to viscose fiber yarn, BPO to IT, ABG has seen it all. A group of value creation with a strong determination of bettering the society and giving back to the community, ABG has been very active in CSR activities and it serves over 7.5 million people in 5000 plus villages. With its dominant presence in all walks of life, in India as well as across the globe, Aditya Birla Group never ceases to amaze me.
The story of my life.
Life has been pretty much easy and simple for me all along. Hailing from a middle-class family I have always been traveling around the country. After completing my schooling with great academic scores, I have joined a reputed college in Kerala for mechanical engineering. I have graduated as one of the toppers of the university and wished to join a core mechanical company.
Having placed in TCS and Accenture, I started questioning my decision. But I stood strong to the passion of my life. Though I have attended multiple core company interviews, I couldn't convert any. It was not at all easy. There came a moment when I started questioning my own capabilities. What worsened my feeling of desperation was my father's sudden diagnosis of malignant tumour. I was literally falling apart.
My life came to a stand still all of a sudden. The following day, I received a call from my best friend. I still remember her wise words. "Being worried is fine, but be worried for the right reason and do something about it." After talking to her I decided to pick myself up and try again. I was with my father in the hospital during day time and worked on my flaws at night.
A month after my father's surgery, I received an interview call from an MNC into real estate projects. As the profile they offered was a core mechanical role, I was very interested and pursued it. In the interview that followed, I gave my 100 percent and was totally satisfied with my performance.
Two days later, I received a call from the company and was conveyed that I was selected. There was no limit to the joy I felt. I was happier about the fact that I have worked on myself and have overcome the challenge in-hand. I came to the realization that this was very powerful and potent. This very realization has made me work on myself in all the days that followed.
This practice of self-improvement has helped me crack the CAT exam and to get into IIM Nagpur for the prestigious PGP program. I still continue working on myself. Looking forward to new heights to conquer.
