As a student of HR, it is tough to find valid resources online to know more about the field. Most generic websites just spew random outdated HR stuff and practices and are very misleading. Here are 5 important online resources that you should utilise to gather knowledge beyond academics: 1. HBR Ascend: Try getting a subscription via your college. HBR Ascend publishes a lot of articles on workplace and employee trends and usually helps you stay abreast of HR best practices. Since it is in its nascent stage, there is a good possibility to get it for free via your college. 2. SHRM: The Society for Human Resources Management is a body that grants HR certifications for international HR personnel. The blog of SHRM is updated daily and you should definitely give it a read. 3. The HR Bartender: Sharlyn Lauby, also known as the HR Bartender, is an HR professional whose blog is pretty well known in corporate circles. Her articles are very up to the date, she has good insights and she is funny. Her blog is a definite must follow if you are looking for real-time HR advice. 4. CaseMine: This is the best website to go to for Indian case laws. Casemine is a subscription based service but it is highly accurate unlike IndiaKanoon and the UI is pretty great to use. The case summaries are wonderful and the format is also much more readable than other websites out there. 5. Consulting Firms and their Blogs: Take note of the best HR consulting firms. You have Aon Hewitt, Mercer, Towers Watson and The Hay Group. Follow the blogs on these firms. The articles are very market relevant and helps during projects etc.
