Success is the end result that everyone aspires for but to lay its foundation, it takes years of zeal, confrontation with obstacles and dealing with mistakes and setbacks. The story of IIM Trichy, an institute that came all the way from starting its journey at a temporary campus at NIT Trichy to having a 175-acre state-of-the-art swanky campus today, is inspiring and worth paying an attention to.
Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli is the is the eleventh IIM, instituted on January 4, 2011 by the Hon’ble Minister of HRD and Telecommunication, Shri Kapil Sibal, under the patronage of Government of India and stewardship of IIM Bangalore. Since then, IIM T is the name that has been relentlessly associating its name with excellence.
“Knowledge is endless” is the motto and guiding star for the institute that imparts the virtue of hard work, Perseverance, Passion and Integrity on its students. Results are an obvious outcome of the process, as depicted in the National Institutional Ranking Framework (NIRF) ranking of 15
th among Indian B schools and 8
th among IIMs in 2018 under the parameters like Teaching, Learning and Resources, Graduation and Outcomes, Outreach and inclusivity, Perception and Research and Practices. Apart from that, being the first IIM to be granted the Indian University Recognition Programme by the CFA, is another feather added to the crown.
Excellent Faculty:
In essence the quality of education in any B school rests on the shoulder of its faculty. IIM Trichy has maintained a commendable student to faculty ratio of 10.28 (35 full time faculty for 360 students). The faculty are formidable both in terms of quality and quantity. The fact that IIM Trichy admits faculty with a minimum of PhD or Fellow qualification from either IIMs or IITs is a testament for the quality of the faculty.
State-of-the-art campus:
“Charity begins at home”. The 175-acre state-of-the-art campus which is perceived to be one of the most modern campuses ever built, targeted to become the first among IIMs to have a 2 Megawatt solar power plant to manage energy requirements. The classrooms are built as horse-shoe kind of architecture, inspired by Havard Business School with occupancy of 250, 80, 60 students. Learning and Resource Centre, at the heart of the campus is another centre of excellence.
Students:
The spirit of IIM Trichy lies in the freedom of pursuing academics and other personality development extra-curricular activities. The students have participated and achieved several accolades in various corporate competitions like Mahindra War Room, L&T Outthink, Godrej Loud to name a few. Students from a diverse background with an improved gender diversity facilitate everyone to learn from different facets of lifestyles of each individual. Participation in various activities, clubs and committees provide students with ample opportunities for developing leadership qualities and experience group ethics.
Make A Difference:
The efficiency and effectivity of a responsible leader should not only be defined in terms of corporate goals and strategies but also the leaders’ engagement with societal issues that impact the community in which they work in. ‘Make a difference (MAD)’ is conceived by IIM Trichy in this context. As a part of this project, every student in IIM Trichy has to work on an issue of societal importance. They work on a specific theme such as education, health etc., or work on a project with an organization like NGO etc. All projects necessarily involve on-the-field component and carried out under the guidance of a faculty member.
Trichy – a strategic location:
With the presence of prestigious educational institutes like NIT Trichy, IIM Trichy, IIIT Trichy, Bharatidasan University etc., Trichy is often considered to be a centre of academic excellence. Being associated with the strategic position, IIM Trichy garners the advantage of distinguished scholars, guest lecturers, researchers etc. Trichy has an international airport that is well connected with countries like Singapore, Sri Lanka, Malaysia and the United Arab Emirates.
Domestically, Trichy is at the vicinity of industrial and IT hubs like Chennai and Bangalore which makes it to stand out from most of other IIMs in terms of locational advantage.
International relations and student exchange:
IIM Trichy has strategic partnerships with institutes having best of the rankings in their respective countries. There are many other programmes related to the International Relations apart from the Student Exchange Programme like the Indian Youth Delegation programme, an elective course called International Business Practice, and "International Week" - a first of its kind initiative among all the IIMs.
Linkages:
IIM Trichy has associations with CII, AIMA, MMA and PMI and is in the process of applying for the prestigious accreditations like AACSB and AMBA.
International week:
IIM Trichy is the first among the IIMs to organize this kind of event when globally reputed faculties from leading institutions of Singapore, US and Europe comes to IIM Trichy to teach students on their subjects of interest. Making the first move in December, 2017, the event provides ample opportunity for the students to learn things from a global perspective from the people who have been there and exhibited their excellence there.
CFA accreditation:
At last but not the least, IIM Trichy is the first among all IIMs to be granted the Indian University Recognition Programme by the CFA. The flagship postgraduate programme of IIM Trichy has been acknowledged as incorporating academic courses that cover at least 70 per cent of the contents as per the CFA Programme Candidate Body of Knowledge and placing emphasis on the CFA Institute Code of Ethics and Standards of Practice within the programme.
Thus, IIM Trichy provides an enriching experience in the entire gamut of indicators of excellence. Driven by the motto of “Knowledge is endless”, IIM Trichy has come a long way to achieve a lot of accolades and experiences that put it in the race of being the best B school in India and we at IIM Trichy have been working relentlessly to achieve manifestations for that.

Aditya Birla Group is the third largest conglomerate in India with subsidiaries in various industries. Among them, the company that draws me the most is Aditya Birla Capital Ltd.
Despite the seasonal fluctuations, the share price of Aditya Birla Capital has shown a downward trend over the last 9 months with INR 237.50 as of 1
st September, 2017 to INR 133.20 as of 29
th June, 2018. But the company can revamp this position because of the following reasons:
- AB Capital was demerged from AB Nuvo with an objective of unlocking shareholder value. The company which prioritizes its shareholders is essentially a value driver.
- AB Capital is unlikely to face any capital issues by virtue of being a subsidiary of Grasim, which will help AB Capital by providing market access.
- Probably the most important aspect is that AB Capital is much ahead of its competitors like Bajaj Finserv and Bajaj Finance in terms of footprint and potential because AB Capital is not just a financial company, rather it is a conglomerate of financial services such as NBFC, Insurance, Mutual funds etc.
- The businesses in which AB Capital has a presence as of now have good growth prospects in the coming years. Insurance and Mutual Funds will grow at 20-25% and NBFC will grow at 15%. Insurance business will grow exponentially as it enters the rural market.
