MICA aims to provide holistic learning to its students. This means that the focus is on developing all the aspects of a young manager - from academics to entrepreneurial. One such example is detailed out below where a second-year student of MICA found her calling with the help of the courses offered by the institution.  Here is a detailed experience shared by Tanvee Chaudhary, MICA 2018-2020, on her journey from IT to Fashion & Retail and her own StartUp - LabelTanvee.
My journey at MICA is in its last phase as I am about to complete my MBA soon. So, when I look back at these two years at MICA, I see it as the most dynamic and enriching phase of my life. When I was preparing for MBA, I was quite sceptical about my chances of getting into a creative B-School. This is because I had 4+ years of Work Ex in IT with hardly any creativity there. However, I was always inclined towards getting into MICA for reasons not known to me. Maybe it was the stories I had heard about MICA, or the courses offered, or the faculty interviews and pictures I saw on the website. Whatever it was, it was strong enough to pull me inside MICA. MICA gave me many things, from friends to my dream job. This I might have got from any other B-school too. But one thing which is most cherished by me is that I discovered my passion at MICA. MICA is a place that lets you be, and in that environment, you discover your true self. Let me explain, like most of the people, I like doing a lot of things, had many hobbies but I really didn’t know what is that one thing which I want to spend rest of my life doing. Such things are mostly those which we enjoyed in our childhoods when we lost track of time doing those things. For me, it was designing and sewing clothes. I remember when I was a kid, I used to make my Barbie’s dresses. But never in my wildest dreams had I imagined that one day I will take this up as my profession. Because I had left behind those things in the race of life. MICA gave me back my passion and an environment conducive to materialize it to reality. So, I founded LabelTanvee after the first year at MICA. It is a women’s apparel brand which has an online presence on Instagram and Facebook. Studying marketing for two years immensely helped me establish my brand and I have been using digital marketing extensively to promote the brand online. I am also learning different aspects of running a business with LabelTanvee. I had been enjoying the initial success which the brand achieved but in no time, it was placement time again. Aditya Birla Fashion Retail Ltd launched a competition with PPOs and this was the time when I decided that this is the kind of job I want to do. With a team of three people, we reached the National Finals of Madura Hackathon at Bangalore. We were given a live case and the whole process took two days. Many higher management employees were involved in the process at different stages including Madura CEO, Mr. Vishak Kumar. The process was quite rigorous both physically and mentally. Finally, I got a PPI and I converted it to a job offer in sales and marketing. I believe LabelTanvee played a huge role in my selection as they were looking for people who have an interest in both marketing and fashion retail. My journey in MICA has been truly fulfilling in both personal and professional sense. So, do what you love and take the job you like!
