We took the opportunity to interact with our alumni who are currently working at Aditya Birla Group, to get inspired from their side of the stories. We took interviews of people who are at managerial positions within the organization. This initiative helped us to understand their journey and how they have tackled various situations in their career.
We connected with our alumnus Mr. Mehul Gupta, who is from the batch of 2014. He is currently working as a Manager in Human resources at UltraTech Cements. The following is the interview of his journey at Aditya Birla Group.
Interviewer- How did your time at SCMHRD prepare you for the challenges that lie ahead in the corporate world?
Another thing that I felt in our time at SCMHRD we were getting a lot of competitions on campus so this way. I remember a case study from Microsoft. Basically, that way you get to know about the company itself, solve those case studies, get exposure to different colleges, different events, you get to build your capabilities around that.
Interviewer - How would you say is the culture is at ABG and what is the one thing you like the most about ABG?
Mehul - The culture at ABG, I would say, is that of empowerment and by that I mean starting from any decision related to financials to any decision about a product we have to launch, is up to me. I have to basically take care of everything. I do not have any constraint on the budget or ideas. If the idea is good, it will definitely get implemented. You do not have many restrictions, you are given a freehand to do what you want, and deliver results. So this empowerment you get is what I would say is the best thing about ABG.
Interviewer - So the company trusts you with the resources it has and they give you everything at your disposal.
Mehul - Yes. Obviously, you have to build credibility that you can get ahead. Also, I would say the second thing I love at ABG, other than empowerment, is the visibility you get. For three or four projects, you might be highlighted to the chairman. You also get projects with strategic heads. So your acumen to think strategically gets built at a young age.
Interviewer - You have been working at ABG for some time now. Do you see any key changes that ABGLP has contributed to a person’s growth?
Interviewer - ABG has recently been going out with the line ‘big in your life’. What are your views regarding this?
The kind of initiatives that ABG has taken is very different from other companies and that is what I feel is the overall essence of ‘big in your life’.
Interviewer - Often people at ABG think about tomorrow, today. So how is this line incorporated in the work that you do on a daily basis?
