Seldom do you find individuals in your life who, through their experiences, become the embodiment of a treasure-chest of knowledge and insights. One such individual is Mr. Tamal Bandyopadhyay, a business journalist with a career spanning three decades. He is a founding member of Livemint, and a columnist for the Business Standard. He has also worked with Financial Express & Economic Times, and is the author of numerous books. Mr. Bandyopadhyay, having had an illustrious career and having worked closely with corporate stalwarts, has found two important characteristics that drive the top honchos of the Banking and Finance world - common sense, and risk-management. He explains, through examples of top business executives including the likes of Mr. Aditya Puri of HDFC Bank, Mr. Uday Kotak of Kotak Mahindra and Mr. Chandra Shekhar Ghosh of Bandhan Bank, how each of these two characteristics drives business executives in the Banking sector. He talks about how in banking, "what you don't do is more important than what you do", and how academic brilliance is not a guarantee of being a winner in life. He also compares with present times how individuals thought of building their careers a decade ago, and speaks at length about the various personality characteristics that can help you make a career in your life. Regardless of the field that your interests lie in, this video is a goldmine of insights from Mr. Bandyopadhyay that can help you build the career that you always dreamt of!
Here are some of the many key takeaways from this video: 1. Common sense, curiosity, asking the right questions, and being a fair and equitable leader are qualities that will help you build your career. 2. Don't surround yourself with an inner-circle of 'Yes men'; it will not add any value to your work. 3. Learning in the classroom is just the beginning and not the end. 4. Common sense and the ability to manage risks are important tools to survive in any industry. 5. Corporate governance and ethics are extremely important in whichever career you choose for yourself! Here is a glimpse of Mr. Bandyopadhyay's illustrious career.
