All the business ventures of Aditya Birla
have collectively impacted almost every aspects of my life.
My entire childhood has been spent in rented homes as my father worked in State Bank of India and we used to relocate after every 2-3 years. It was only when I reached eight standard, we started building our own home. I have seen and helped my parents to make our dream home a reality. For a teenager, it was a very new experience and I learned a lot from my father including the value of brands and the quality it represents. Ultra Tech cement was our top choice and only option to build a strong, durable home for our future.
Having my roots in the semi-urban place called Jamshedpur, Jharkhand, I have spent most of my childhood at a place where Pantaloons was the first shopping complex to open. It was only then when me and my friends came to know about various retail brands. The inauguration of this brand started some new cultural trends, likes of which was non-existent in our city. It is very normal to own apparels from Louis Philippe, Allen Solly, or Peter England now, but Aditya Birla introduced me to them in my early part of life.
When I went to pursue my BTech degree in NIT Rourkela, Idea was the first telecom service that I opted for. Then Idea had an image of a pocket friendly with good network service. I have used it for the major life of my bachelor’s life and has always been satisfied with its service.
How I overcame challenges in my life.
After completing intermediate level, my plans were to pursue engineering from a well reputed college. During those year, I had prepared my best for boards and entrance examinations. Just after my boards, I appeared for JEE, AIEEE and various other engineering exams. When the results got declared, to my dismay, I had not scored as well my expectations. I would not been able to get into any of my dream colleges according to the marks scored. After long introspection, to achieve my long ambition, I decided to give one more year to preparation. I made up my mind to follow my dream and had to convince my parents to trust me for one more year. At first, they were quite speculative about the wasting my time and they wanted to join an engineering college right then. I took some time to convince them and in order to do that I conversed with many of my peers and school faculty to understand the pros and cons of taking one more year to preparation. I promised myself to invest all of my energy to the preparation and admonish every kind of distraction from my life. That entire year I had given my everything to studies, and tried very hard to discipline myself. Here were many days of discouragement but, I took them to be a part of my journey and worked through them to achieve my goal. At the end I made it into NIT Rourkela the next year and managed to make my parents proud. At the end I learned that in order to achieve any ambition, I need discipline, commitment and hard work.
