Journey through transpiring lesson #IIM Trichy
Every person has their own path and the sole responsibility to steer it in the right direction rests with them. This journey, as often perceived by everyone is not a straight line but it is a cumulation of obstacles and wrong turns. We can avoid some obstacles by prior knowledge or guidance from others, but there are some obstacles which are destined to teach the lessons of our lives. This will be a short recollection of such lessons in my life. It was during the time of my semester exams in December 2015 and the whole city of Chennai was submerged in floods. I was overwhelmed by the situation as I had a fear of water back then. Even then, I wanted to get on the field and help others, but my fear of water stopped me from doing so and I was stuck in my home. But this did not last long as the water reached our area and we were forced to leave our homes and move to shelter camps. This required to me walk a distance of around two kilometres with water up to the chest level. I was crestfallen and my fear started to kick in along with insecurity. It was at this time I was helped by some complete strangers who offered me a place in their boat and dropped me in the relief camp. Once I reached the camp, the scene was completely different where people from different strata were working as one arm of the society in dealing with the crisis. It was at this time I started to feel comfortable around complete strangers and decided to place my trust in others when needed. Also, this helped me to empathize with others and picture things from their standpoint of view. These challenges and lessons have shaped me in a positive way and nurtured my personality. Going forward, I will push myself and also others around me to face on the journey of life in a confident manner.
