The journey of IIM Tiruchirappalli has seen many ups and downs but it is still going from strength to strength. My decision of choosing IIM Tiruchirappalli was inspired by the below reasons:
- The Inspirational Director
Dr. Bhimaraya Metri is one of the most highly respected figures in the field of education. With his prior expertise as the Dean at MDI Gurgaon, IMI, New Delhi, he brings in a lot of experience to the table. Dr. Metri is the co-author of six books and has published over a hundred articles [1]. Under the guidance of Dr. Metri, IIM Tiruchippalli has received “TOP INSTITUTE OF INDIA” award by Competition Success Review. He aims to bring IIM Tiruchrappalli within top five b-schools in India.
- The ever reachable Faculty
One of the most important reasons for selecting any b-school is its faculty because a student learns the most during faculty interactions. IIM Tiruchirappalli has 35 permanent faculty members giving a student to faculty ratio of 10.28 (360 students in both years). The diverse mix of faculty brings different approaches to the table.
Due to my previous work in the field of Logistics, I want to study and specialize in Operations Management. IIM Tiruchirappalli provides a strong base to build on my knowledge. 8 of the total 35 faculties specialize in different fields of Operations management who will guide me and help me grow in the field.
While this may not be a major point for many b-school students, the most important thing I have learnt from my previous work experience is to remain healthy. Nobody pays money for being ill. The sports complex which will be inaugurated by next year has facilities for gym, table tennis, a pool, a swimming pool and other exciting sports. The sports complex would be a great stress buster in the hectic life of all the students.
Aside from being an educational hub, Trichy is a great tourist spot and a land of temples. The Rockfort cave here is maintained by the Archaeological Survey of India [2]. Rameshwaram, Madurai, Pondicherry and Kanyakumari are all within 300 kms distance from Trichy. The travel junkie in me could not resist the idea of these places and I packed my bags on the first chance to come here.
“In life it’s not where you go – it’s who you travel with” – Charles Schultz. Life is always a give and takes the scenario and I want to invest all my resources for the next two years in IIM Tiruchirappalli so that as I grow within the institute, the institute grows with me.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
I would like to work for Birla Carbon which is the world’s leading sustainable manufacturer and supplier of carbon black additives. The company has recently opened its Jining plant in China. As in the words of Kumar Mangalam Birla, Chairman, Aditya Birla Group, it is their Magnum Opus.
Birla Carbon is the largest as well as the most technically advanced and environmentally sustainable company working in the field of carbon black. Working for Birla Carbon will provide a unique opportunity where I would like to grow and utilize my potential to the fullest.
