‘This will be uploaded on Moodle. The deadline to submit the assignment will be Sunday 8 pm.’ A very common utterance by the faculty of TISS HRM&LR. If you are a night owl like me then your normal day at TISS starts at 8:30 am for a lecture scheduled at 9:15 am. You try to hurry up because you don’t want your friends to leave you behind (not to mention the attendance you wish you got!). So, you say ‘in the lift’ when your friends call you to tell that, they are waiting outside when you are trying to figure out where you kept your laptop last night before you slept off. Nevertheless, you try to gather all the required pieces, meet your friends downstairs and rush to take an auto. “Bhaiya, Tata College” “Old or new?” “New, Bhaiya”. It’s a blessed day if you don’t have to wait at the signal (a real struggle for students living at the opposite end of the college) spending those 5 minutes at the crossroads when you could be marking your presence for the first lecture. In this hullabaloo, you finally reach class - attend the lecture - plea your faculty to mark your presence and rush to the canteen (because you also skipped breakfast in the morning, remember?), so you can come back before the next lecture commences. The rest of your day goes like the first half where you are attending scheduled lectures, planned guest lectures, discussing group projects, bargaining deadlines with the CRs till the time you have to use your decision-making skills and decide if you want to have lunch at the Dining Hall (DH), DM canteen or go completely overboard with your 45 minutes lunch break and decide to go out for lunch. In this endless cycle of grinding, the people around you will make your day. From cooking dinner together on Sundays to solving multi-level case studies, it’s your troupe (including your mentor from senior batch) that makes the TISS journey 10 folds better. It’s your survival kit at TISS and a full pack of refreshments outside TISS. As I complete my first year here, I can see how TISS brings you close to both, nature and replenishes your need for nurture.
