When it comes to comparing the batch sizes across all the IIMs, IIM Indore surely stands out. This is because there are over 1000 students when one considers both the years of MBA, including both PGP and IPM participants. One of the reasons why people go for an MBA is to improve their network. With such a batch size, networking is an area where the students of IIM Indore have an edge over the other IIMs. What exactly is networking? It is the process wherein one interacts with people to increase one’s social as well as professional contact base. What is the importance of networking? Networking increases a person’s outlook with the information that a person can get via his or her networks. Needless to say, as managers, insider information, recent business trends, strategies and job openings are the things which have the topmost priorities. Through networking, one can use the professional contacts to broaden the business outlook and boost one’ career. Generally, LinkedIn is used as a major platform for networking with people – be it inside a firm or in any other firm. With such a huge batch size, and with the students getting placed in a myriad of firms across the broad spectrum of all business domains, networking happens in-campus. In IIM Indore, the PGP participants have two years to build their networks and the IPM participants have five years to build theirs. From the perspective of someone who has closely observed the pattern and strength of networking in the campus of IIM Indore, one can definitely see different entrepreneurial stints happening inside the campus. Be it a service as simple as laundry on campus to a food delivery service catering to a broader spectrum of the audience in Indore, IIM Indore has it all. Networking sure paves the way for the entrepreneurs. In addition to that, at the campus level, for the B-school competitions, one definitely needs to have a rapport with one’s team members. This batch size offers a person a myriad of options to choose people having subject matter expertise pertaining to a particular domain and ensure that their team in any B-school competition has the confluence of the best minds across all domains. Well, networking doesn’t just happen within the over 1000 participants in the campus. With more than a thousand students graduating every year, the alumni base is as strong as ever. This only adds to the strength of the networks one forms at IIM Indore. It is rarely ever the case that a person studying at IIM Indore has absolutely no professional or social contacts built over the span of the two years of MBA. All these points mentioned above highlight the fact why a big batch size is beneficial for networking – especially when it comes to the period when one pursues an MBA. Networking is about knowing the right people who are in the right places, and a big batch size definitely increases the sample size of people for building up networks in and around the campus.
