The Summer internship is an overwhelming experience for any fresher as it is the first experience you have in a corporate world. And to do it in one of the top conglomerates in the world, it gives you butterflies in your stomach. It is the same feeling I also got as I stepped into the Siemens office on the first day of my internship! From feeling that to winning the “Best Summer Project” award, the journey has been nothing short of exceptional.

I was assigned a project on ‘Employer Branding’, more specifically on Internal Branding. The concept of internal branding is about believing in yourself. In the last few years, companies have started emphasising on a policy of understanding internal mechanics as it is an important channel between creating a strategy and its successful execution. Siemens as an organisation is always committed to this cause and hence an opportunity to work on this was a challenge I was ready to take on.

The main objective of the project was to identify various innovative and easy-to-implement methods to communicate the brand value and the EVP of Siemens to its employees. Before the start of my internship itself, I was given a fair idea about the topic which helped in doing secondary research beforehand. It really helped my cause that I had done extensive secondary research as I could set the stage set for when doing primary research in the organisation. From studying industry best practices to competitor analysis to doing a study on the current brand understanding of the employees, the secondary research helped me in good stead. A portion of my study was also spent on learning current practices followed for Induction at Siemens and how the new practices could effectively be implemented right from the induction stages itself.

Getting the chance to work on a project of such magnanimity, anyone can get overwhelmed, but the constant support I got from my mentor and the Head of HR at Siemens helped me throughout. They helped me get a clear idea about the internal branding structure at Siemens. Their experiences and insights on what works and what won't at Siemens helped me immensely as I went through various iterations of the process roadmap to get the best possible solutions. The one year I studied at NMIMS Mumbai also gave me not just theoretical knowledge but also a practical understanding of the nuances of working in a corporate environment.

The recommendations and suggestions submitted at the end of the internship period helped me secure the ‘Best Internship Project’ award at Siemens. The Pre-placement interview offer I got as part of the award was the cherry on top! On the whole, it was a short and exciting journey I had at Siemens and I wish to continue in the same rich vein in Siemens as I was fortunate enough to convert my PPI into an offer.
