Why and how you chose IIM Trichy?

I woke up with a jerk; panting and perspiring!

I wanted this to be as non-dramatic as possible but as Truman Capote stated in his novella ‘Breakfast at Tiffany’s’ – “No matter where you run, you end up running into yourself”. So this is what my acute love for dramatics has brought me to. Again.

Coming back to the dream – Two days back when my motor cortex was chilling on the beach; my cerebral cortex created a dream sequence in my head taking reference from a recent event. It was about a time when students from my batch were given around 30 kgs of books(not even kidding) for the first term commencement at Indian Institute of Management Tiruchirappalli. I dreamt that the weight of the books(read responsibilities) was so much that I fell on my back with my bag containing the books under me. Suddenly the books turned into a thousand arrows and I imagined myself as Bhishma, the eighth son of Shantanu in Mahabharata. I knew it wouldn’t last for 58 days as in his case; I would have to deal with it for 2 years. I woke up and life started as it was. I know the build-up didn’t really explain why and how I chose IIM Trichy but please bear with me or you might lose the ride. I hail from Delhi(North). Did my B.Tech from National Institute of Technology, Jamshedpur (East). Finally ended up with a job in Mumbai(West). Now I wanted a taste of the South. Wait. Is this guy really dumb enough to use such a silly reason? Well, that’s obviously not the case. I read about the colleges a lot. We at IIM Trichy don’t compare ourselves to any 2nd generation IIM. Our Director Dr Bhimaraya Metri wants to see our college in top 5 in the country in the next few years. I used to think that it is naïve to have such dreams and to compare with the best. Isn’t every other college doing it already? Isn’t everybody else writing the same points in his/her ABGLP submissions? They are. But if there is an Institute really striving to achieve it is IIM Trichy. I researched a lot about the perception of IIM Trichy well before deciding to join. I was surprised how my peers from industry and other colleges held the college way high in perception. Even NIRF rankings rate us among the top in terms of brand perception. So the soothsayers are soothsaying about the success of this institute already. Do you want to board the bus before it takes off?

You should. So that you can brag later that we were right. IIM Trichy really made it big.

Which Aditya Birla Group company would you want to work for and why?

I want to be a part of the Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited; that is the branded apparel business of Aditya Birla Group. I have always been interested in the visual aspects of things. The appearance of a person, situation and thing is the most important selling point that humans subconsciously judge first and then underestimate because society discourages judgments based on looks. But I have always been bold enough to acknowledge the importance of aesthetics so I would like to grow and develop myself in Fashion and Retail when it comes to Aditya Birla Group and would want to work on the brand image.
