How do you a conquer a deep, long lasting fear of heights (acoraphobia)? Some might say you get therapy. But Chinmaya, featured as one of InsideIIM's Best 50 today, took it step by step and tried different adventure sport activities to get over this fear. Starting out with bungee jumping in Rishikesh to going for long treks, Chinmaya successfully conquered his deep seated fear. And this mindset makes him one of the Most Employable Graduates of the Class of 2018-20. Read on to find out his story!
The following is Chinmaya Mishra’s set of responses to a questionnaire floated amongst MBA graduates to determine the top-50 most employable MBA graduates of the Class of 2020. Amongst the massive number of entries and responses being evaluated by the Founder of InsideIIM-Kampus Konversations, Chinmaya’s story and profile stood out. Here's his own story in his own words. “My name is Chinmaya Mishra and I was born and brought up in Odisha. I have 25 months of work experience with UltraTech Cement limited. Apart from achieving excellence in academics, I have always actively participated in clubs and committees, sports and an NGO.My hobbies and interests lie in exploring new things. I am a travel enthusiast and love connecting with new people and learning about them and their cultures. I am also a diploma holder in Tabla. I have keen interest in adventure sports and have already completed Bungee Jumping and paragliding as I believe a tad of risk taking ability should be present to achieve higher goals.” *** Name an instance where you wanted something and went out of your comfort zone to achieve it OR Tell us the biggest risk you have taken so far in your life. “I always wanted to hike in the mountains but I had Acrophobia. Even if I stood and looked down from a 1st floor balcony, I would get dizzy. But during my tenure in UltraTech, I went out on a bike trip with my colleagues to Rishikesh and somehow gathered the courage to register with Jumping heights for Bungee Jumping. The bike ride to the mountains were the initial steps towards reducing the fear, but the day when I could actually jump from a height of 83m I started falling in love with heights. Later I went on a trek to Triund, Kheerganga and went on solo trips to McLeodganj, and other northern hill tops.”  When was the last time someone relied on you? OR What did you do which was purely for someone else - a truly selfless act. “This act was not just for someone in particular, but for the whole batches of IIM Ranchi, before us and many more to come. I drew a doodle at the end of my college year depicting almost all the activities that a person might come across in his two years of post graduation at IIM Ranchi.” Tell us about a time when you disagreed with an opinion/idea/decision. What did you do about it? “In a group project we had to prepare a report overnight, so everyone else decided to randomly  divide the work and compile it later, but I had a different opinion to sit and discuss the whole thing together to not miss out on important points and others’ views on every topic. I had to make them understand the importance of the project to our final term as well as the relevance to our placement. Later on when everybody agreed with my viewpoint, I offered them some chocolates in return.”   What is the one thing you can claim to have some level of expertise or depth of knowledge in - it could be anything - a subject, a sport, a hobby, a venture, an initiative which has led you to do deep work in that field?  “Music. I am a diploma holder in Tabla and always fond of music, rhythms etc. Currently I am practicing my hands on guitar and hand drums.” If 10 Million Dollars (approximately INR 75 Crores) is given to you to use it any way you deem fit what would you do with this corpus? “With this amount of money I would ask or seek help from my district administration and try to help the poor or unprivileged ones in order to provide them with basic food and medical aid facilities.”
