After being selected in few new IIMs, I, like many other aspirants, was in a dilemma as to which one to join and decided upon IIM Raipur after giving much thought which I would like to share here.
It is certainly true that most of the learnings in MBA happen outside the classroom and this b-school provides just that through its all year round activities hosted by thirteen clubs and nine committees present as on date.
I have always been fascinated by travelling and have been to various states and countries. Studying a trimester in a different country provides great exposure and expands one’s horizon and the IR committee here works diligently to continuously partner with multiple top b-schools across the world to make this happen. IIM Raipur without a doubt has the best student exchange programs.
The library has over 2.67 lakh books and 14000+ journals which is far more than other IIM’s that were started during the same period. And being centrally located in the capital city of Chhattisgarh, it has great connectivity from all parts of the country which is beneficial both in terms of inviting prominent personalities for business talks and companies for recruitment.
Each college has a forte in terms of a specific specialization. But IIM Raipur provides a balanced placement with just a slight edge towards Marketing and Analytics/Consulting as can be seen from the reports. This is good news for someone like me who hasn’t finalized on the specialization yet and decides to do so after understanding each through the amazing faculties that the college offers.
If the college can provide so much just by operating from a temporary campus, one can only imagine the advancements after shifting to a 200 acre lavish campus in Naya Raipur.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
I would like to work with the retail sector of Aditya Birla group - Aditya Birla Fashion & Retail Ltd. ABFRL emerged after the consolidation of various subsidiaries and is now India's No 1. Fashion Lifestyle entity with a combined revenue of INR 7,181 crore for FY 2018. Although ABG tops the list in India in terms of market share in the apparel space, it is bound to face tough competitions from Landmark and other new entrants in this market with huge potential and hence will provide great learning opportunities in terms of branding and strategies taken to retain the market share.
