The best thing about IIM Udaipur is learnings that happen in classes. Although classes are not only restricted to academic stuff, it is sometimes fun also. Some of the best lessons I have learned during MBA are from classroom interactions among peers, and teachers. I can recall a memorable experience which has taught me a lot. There are classes in which I didn’t have any interest, but the way the professor explained it made it most interesting. An unforgettable moment of my MBA journey was the final project presentation in the Marketing Management course during the first term. It was a group project, and we had put a lot of efforts in doing that project. It was the first full-fledged presentation as a group; I was making in IIM Udaipur. Why this incident became memorable for me, I would share later in the article. We were very confident about the presentation. All five of us came to present the project “Designer Cakes” where we had to talk about the comprehensive marketing plan (5 C’s, STP and 4 Ps) we had created for our product. The presentation time limit was 10 minutes, and after that, there was supposed to be the question-answer session for 5-7 mins. We completed the presentation and the grilling started which tore us apart because we had messed up a lot of things in the project. Just, for example, we had decided on a target segment which we even didn’t consider during segmentation. Another example is, we had decided to target a particular event but it was not distributed evenly throughout the year, but in pricing, we had not considered it. It happened so because we had divided work amongst ourselves and decided that we will do our part and compile. It was a very disappointing moment for us, but this questioning taught me some of the best things which helped me in the future, and my whole group and I never repeated those silly mistakes. So, It was the learnings from this presentation which made it memorable for me. First, a division of work is essential, but it is more important to understand the linkages between the two persons’ work so that there is a proper flow. Second, always at least once rehearse the presentation within the group so that it becomes perfect and any problems can be identified at that time. Third, presentation preparation also includes the preparing for the questions which will follow after it which may go beyond the topic or scope of presentation. These lessons still guide me every time I am preparing or presenting. ABG Company I would like to work for: Aditya Birla Science and Technology Company Private Limited In today’s world, it is vital for a company to excel in its existing market by delivering new products and better value to consumers. At the same time, it is equally essential for a company to create products or solutions for new segments which either didn’t exist earlier or not targeted by it. To achieve this objective, the firm needs to have some differentiating factor or become a cost leader. And here comes a need for a research and technology company which enables businesses to accomplish those goals. So I want to be part of a company which produces something for each sector and help them to perform better. By working here, I will get exposure to multiple businesses and various products. I will understand the relationships/systems/processes between technology, business, employees and customers which results in better solutions. I will learn the nitty-gritty of product development and gain the insights about the critical factor for a firm where and how much it invests in R&D.
