When I was preparing for CAT one question always arose in my mind, which test series we should buy and how to use most of it? I am sure that this question arises in the minds of many aspirants. So in today’s article let’s compare CAT Mock Test Series and how we should decide which one should be chosen.
The factors that need to be taken into consideration before buying the test series are:
- Number of test takers – if you are giving a mock where there are less number of test takers then your percentile will show you a flawed overview of your performance. Hence taking a mock that a considerable amount of people are giving would be better.
- Analysis – Analysis of mock is important and every test series has a different type of analysis description which is provided below.
- Explanation- Proper explanation along with some alternate methods and shortcuts plays a huge role in DILR and QA.

Now let’s compare the top 3 CAT mock test series:
IMS
Pros:
- Huge number of test takers, which will help you better gauge your performance and percentile
- The analysis part of IMS is pretty good which includes the mock analysis and current mock analysis through a graphical method. Also here we have the option of ticking questions that we could have got right but did not attempt because of time pressure and getting to know overall marks after including those questions’ scores and making a strategy accordingly in the next mock.
- The explanation of QA and DILR is very good as they provide short tricks and alternative methods to solve questions.
- In IMS mock there is a better display of your score and percentile on the dashboard where you can see all your percentiles in the same place, no need to click again and again.
- You also have the option to see the number of questions you got right or wrong in a particular chapter to have a better overview.
LIMITATIONS
- In my time some mocks were too easy where you could easily score 80-90 marks but your percentile will be only 50-55 so these mocks were a waste of time according to us and hence a limitation to her
- Sectional tests were not very useful as their level did not match the CAT level.
- Apart from proctored mock, take-home mock tests were also there whose percentile is not visible unless a particular number of students attempts it.
Career Launcher
PROS
- More number of test takers
- Good analysis as well as the explanation in Countdown Cat mocks
- An additional feature in CL which is not there in IMS is that CL provides a video on attempt strategy as to which questions you should have picked first which worked wonders in my DILR section.
- The interface of CL is colorful so you will be more engaged in analyzing the portal
- Graphical representation of mocks is available
- Another very helpful thing is that they have made a separate column on the portal where you can see the chapter-wise questions that appeared in the mocks that you have given to date.
LIMITATIONS
- The video explanation of only countdown cat mocks was good and that of the prime cat was not as good.
TIME
PROS
- TIME is known for its toughness. The mocks are more difficult than the actual CAT. So if you want to experience difficult mocks you can have it.
- The analysis part of TIME is good but that of IMS and CL is better if we will compare these three.
- More number of test takers
LIMITATIONS
- Because of being difficult, people generally get demotivated when they see fewer marks.
- Video explanation is not too good, so if you want a good video explanation then go for IMS or CL
- The interface of the portal is not good.
So, if someone wants a good video explanation of DILR and QA then they can go for IMS. If wants that of VARC and an attempt strategy then go for CL. And if want to experience mocks tougher than real CAT then go for TIME.
All the best to you all for CAT 2024
