In the second episode of The AltUni Career Show, Supreet Singh (Founding Partner - Native) and Ankit Doshi (Founder - AltUni | InsideIIM) discuss about breaking into Product Management, how to do so if you’re not from a hallowed institute, and how to prepare for a PM interview!
If you’re looking to break into a career in Product Management, we recommend you to check out AltUni’s Certificate Program In Product Management. You will be eligible for a Global Immersion program in Dubai, work on live projects, and get interview opportunities at QuoDeck, Apollo Finvest, and Zopper! Based on detailed research at Native, Supreet says that there are ~20,000 Product Managers in India, and the increasing demand for PMs is only going to go up in the near future. A CPO or a Product Leader with 15-17 years of experience can earn up to INR 3 crores only in salary. If you throw in ESOPs, then the number can go up as high as INR 60 crores!
Supreet shares that not just startups, but conglomerates have also started hiring PMs.The primary reason is that conglomerates across the globe are bullish on investing in technology so that their business model doesn’t take a hit because of a cuddling-edge startup. The hiring has increased over the years, and the trend is only going to improve!
Surprisingly, during the current layoff season, Product Management has been one of the least affected careers, be it at startups or at conglomerates.
When it comes to starting your journey as a PM, candidates from tier-1 institutes get an upper hand, and can start their PM journey directly from campus. While the scenario for those not from the hallowed institutes may not be as rosy, there are actionable insights that Supreet has shared, that one must follow!
In the next segment, Supreet and Ankit talk about switching to a PM domain, whether PM experience in one sector will be beneficial while switching to a different sector, and guidance on preparing for PM interviews! Watch the video to know more!
