A very famous quote but I was never really tested in my life to that extent before joining IIM Trichy. I consider myself lucky and my journey until I entered the gates of IIM Trichy had been a very smooth one. Born and brought up in Delhi to a set of beautiful, hardworking and extra caring parents, I always received what I wanted from my parents. My mother was a teacher in the same school where I spent 12 years of my life and then completed my graduation in the same city, in a similar environment. Now, when the time came to do something on my own, I came far from my hometown to Tiruchirappalli. A drastic change of world and things around me, first time away from the comforts of living with my parents and a metro city where you get things in the blink of an eye.
The challenges that IIM Trichy posed for me were not just about the academic rigour but a complete change in the environment, the language barrier, weather conditions and especially the food. While I was preparing for my CAT exams to get the coveted “IIM” tag for myself, I thought the price for it was limited to hard work of securing a good percentile. Slowly, I discovered that the tag is earned with a lot more effort and hard work than just the CAT score.
After a few early setbacks in my academic performance in my term 1 and a lot of daily motivation from my constant pillars of strength, my parents, I started to fight my way up. Taking small steps, planning the day and following a routine made me overcome a lot of things that initially posed a big challenge for me. The set of friends that I made here in college were also very helpful and considerate.
This experience so far at IIM Trichy holds a special place in my heart as it evolved me as someone who is ready to take up any challenge. My overall consistent academic performance, along with my involvement in extra-curricular activities sports in college finally paid-off well when I got selected for my summer internships with my dream company “Google”.
So, finally what makes IIM Trichy unique are the challenges the place has to offer which test you to the core and eventually bring out the best in you.
Which ABG company would you want to work for and why?
I joined IIM Trichy, with an open mind and no bias towards any stream in particular. As I got involved in the academic curriculum, I slowly got inclined towards marketing. If given a chance to work for the Aditya Birla Group, I would like to work for the MORE Megastore company. I have personally witnessed the impact this particular chain of stores has had on my life, making day to day task easy and affordable for my family and neighbours. As I have also personally worked with an organization that dealt with consumers products, I feel my experience will also come in handy for the same.
