“Next destination – DMS IIT Delhi”, was the end note in the farewell mail that I wrote to my colleagues at work in June 2013. And today, I have only a few more months left to spend at DMS. Looking back I realize that DMS wasn’t just a destination, but it was a jam packed journey altogether. A journey that led me to stretch, test and push my limits, gather a vast amount of experience and obtain a fresh perspective on life.
After 3 years of work experience as Technology Consultant for CRM Practice, I decided to do an MBA for various reasons, out of which the most important one was to steepen the learning curve. Deciding on the institutes to apply was not an easy affair. Being an undergraduate from a Government Engineering College and having benefited from the many advantages of studying there, I decided to apply to only the top government institutes offering MBA and DMS IIT-D was ranked high up in the list. The institute also came highly recommended from my mentors and friends. Talking to a couple of pass outs really helped set my expectations right. My major decision criteria revolved around exposure, investment and value.
Now into my fourth semester, I shall try and reflect upon how DMS has brought about the change in me that I wanted to achieve. Housed in IIT-D, one of the highest ranking institutes in India with faculties ranging from engineering to humanities, DMS provides you the opportunity to interact and learn from people involved in various fields of study and thereby widen your perspective and knowledge base. This also helps in developing your network beyond the usual B-School networks. The syllabus and course work keeps one engaged throughout the semester, but the academic load has been designed such that there’s necessary balance between horizontal and vertical growth of knowledge in the various papers taught. The teaching pedagogy followed by the professors is based on case studies and theories developed from their vast research and consulting experience. The location advantage of being situated right in the heart of Delhi is a big factor in getting some of the best organizations on campus for placements and live projects. This also facilitates a plethora of guest lectures by academicians and industry stalwarts who frequent the city. However, life wouldn’t have been complete for me at DMS, if it weren’t for the best in class recreational facilities on campus.
Having interned with one of the top MNCs, placed with my dream organization and having connected with so many brilliant people, all because of DMS, I just can’t stop thanking all that conspired to make me decide in favor of joining DMS IIT-Delhi!
