Aditya Birla Group has contributed in some way or other in my day to day life. Consciously or subconsciously I have used a lot of product that is actually manufactured by Aditya Birla Group. The presence of the group is massive across different sectors like manufacturing industry, retail sector, mining, telecom services, financial services, fashion, fertilizers etc. It is the third-largest Indian private sector conglomerate with a revenue of approximately US$44.3 billion in year 2018. It is a world leader in aluminum rolling, viscose staple fiber, and carbon black production. It is also the fourth largest producer of insulators, one of the top 4 cement producers and is the second largest telecom company in the world. Aditya Birla group of companies own many big brands such as Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Allen Solly, Peter England, Idea Cellular, Birla Sun Life Insurance and Birla Sun Life Asset Management and much more. It is a dream company to work with for most of the B-school aspirants and is in the league of Fortune 500 organizations. The company operate in more than 35 different countries and employ more than 120,000 employees worldwide. One of the key things about the group is that over 50 percent of the revenues come from overseas operations. The Group’s Employee Value Proposition is ‘A World of Opportunities’, built around 4 pillars. It includes opportunities for building: great careers; continuous learning along with a strong meaningful life beyond work and connect with a larger social purpose. The organization also reaches out annually to 7.5 million people through the “Aditya Birla Centre for Community Initiatives and Rural Development” which I think is a great initiative to contribute towards our society specially to improve the quality of life of the poor people. How you overcame challenges to achieve your ambitions in life so far? My mantra in life is to keep working hard with full honesty and I don’t believe in luck. I believe that if you are honest with your work, then you will get the results sooner or later. I faced quite a lot of difficult times in my life. But I tried to maintain my composure and worked really hard in every aspect. I graduated in Mechanical Engineering but got a job in an information technology company. Everything there was new for me as I didn’t have any experience in the software field. It was very intimidating at first as all of my colleagues were either experts in coding or had at least some prior experience in coding. I was put into a project which involved the development of Java web based tools. It involved learning multiple technologies like HTML, CSS, Bootstrap, JavaScript, Servlets etc. I was not able to cope up with the pressure of working as a web developer. The learning curve was very steep. I had to slog for extra hours at workplace as I was simultaneously learning and working on the different technologies. But I tried to remain calm and always strive to make a conscious effort in difficult times. For keeping my motivation alive, I listen to inspirational speakers, read inspiring stories and also do meditation. I always look for a better alternative to any problem in a manner that is fair and honest. Due to my commitment and hard work at workplace I was able to grasp the learning and apply my knowledge. I got promoted twice in a span of just 31 months. I gave presentations to Senior director as well and also got award for my outstanding contributions by the client as well as my company. This was something which I couldn’t even imagine while I was joining the company. So this was a huge moment for me as it increased my confidence and made me believe that I could tackle any difficulty in life. I always believe in hard work. I think nobody is born talented and it is our commitment and passion towards our work which determines who we are as a person. Difficult situations help to bring the best of ourselves. If one is not willing to put in the work to harvest and cultivate their talent, then the talent itself is essentially useless. Hard work and perseverance will beat out pure talent any day.
