The Union Human Resource Development minister Smt. Smriti Zubin Irani advised the graduating batch to harness their management acumen to contribute towards the growth of agriculral sector while delivering convocation address in the fifth convocation function of Indian Institute of Management Rohtak. Union Minister Smt. Smriti Irani, in her inspiring address, urged upon the students to take inspiration from the life of corporate icon Steve Jobs. She said that students must not be deterred by failure but go ahead in life irrespective of failures. She said, “Steve Jobs’ life is an inspiration to take up the entrepreneurial route to corporate life.” She congratulated the graduating students and urged them have a vision forward. Smt. Irani presented gold medals to two students. Mayank Garg was conferred with scholastic achievement award, while Sejal Agarwal won the all-round performance award. The convocation was attended by Prof. Atanu Rakshit (Director, IIM Rohtak), Chairman and other members of the Board of Governors of IIM Rohtak Society, faculty, staff, family members among other dignitaries. In his message to the address, Mr. Ravi Kant said, “The institute has evolved in its journey of the past six years and made diversity its hallmark. The proportion of women graduates is more than a third in this graduating class. Similarly, more than a quarter of students have non-engineering backgrounds like Dentistry, Pharmacy, Apparel Production, Biotechnology, Mathematics and Liberal Arts. There is also a healthy mix of freshers and those with work experience. This diversity encourages richer discussion and views. Our students will be able to contribute to achieving better solutions for the society we live in as well as for the organization they will be engaged in.” Dr. Atanu Rakshit, Director, IIM Rohtak, in his annual report mentioned, “The long duration Executive Education Programme was launched on November 23, 2015. 56 Students joined the first batch of e-PGP Programme. As a part of Make in India Campaign IIM Rohtak is one among the Institutions selected as Technological Business Incubation Centre i.e., a nodal hub for Entrepreneurship Development by the Department of Science and Technology in association with MHRD.” The director also touched upon the bright placement scenario in the academic year. He mentioned, “The Final Placement of the Batch was completed successfully, with participation of 48 companies. The average salary showed an increase of 12.5 per cent over the previous year. The Top 50 of the Batch had an average CTC of Rs.1.49 million and the average CTC of the Top 100 was Rs. 1.32 million. Final placement offers came from such well-known brands as JP Morgan Chase, Arcesium, ICICI Bank, Bharat Petroleum, Yes Bank, Idea, Cognizant, Wipro, Maruti Suzuki, Jindal Steel, Actuate Business Consulting, Amazon, Indus Valley Partners to name a few.” Visibly excited and impeccably dressed in their graduation gowns, the students could be seen reminiscing about the two unforgettable years spent at IIM Rohtak and discussing their aspirations for the future. They bid a final farewell to the Institute and to their junior batch, with whom they shared many memories and much camaraderie.
