In this video shot at the i5 Summit, IIM Indore, Kunj Sanghvi, Content Head At InsideIIM, Ex-CNBC, Ex-HT Media, MICA Alum continues his story of arriving at interesting life realisations. He talks about paying the dues before you can achieve success. But most importantly, Kunj talks about his work and idea behind InsideIIM. He then talks about what drives him and his life’s philosophy. If you wish to know how to find the right people to work with, this one’s for you.

Summary of the video:

Kunj talks about Bombay Talkies, the film series, and shares his learnings. He talks about paying the dues, working hard and sacrificing something in order to gain something. He talks about how one has to work on the unpleasant, sacrifice passion, interest and time, in order to reach a level where one can do as he or she pleases. Kunj talks about InsideIIM next, and shares the story of just why he decided to join InsideIIM as Content Head. He shares the philosophy behind InsideIIM’s existence and talks about how skill is the new oil. He shares how one has almost free access to information and hence it is our skills that make us stand out. He talks about how individuals, employers, etc must focus on honing and developing as well as investing in skillsets. Kunj talks about the 3 major tells of a team that can make it. He shares how entrepreneurs and individuals need to be steadfast and passionate in order to succeed. He shares how ego can ruin even great opportunities. He talks about dignity of labour and how an entrepreneur must be ready to do even menial tasks in order to succeed. He shares how having fun at work is also an ingredient of success. Finally, he talks about leaving a stable job in order to work at a startup. He talks about how working at a startup gives you ownership. He talks about being able to take business decisions at a startup, something one may not be able to do at a job. He then shares his philosophy of life and talks about how must figure out what one enjoys and work towards that. If you wish to know what it takes to enjoy a well balanced career, this is a must watch for you.

Key Takeaways:

1. You need to be a part of 80% other things that you don’t particularly enjoy. And that’s when you’ll get to do those 20% things that you’re in love with.
2. In a world where everybody has access to the same technology, the differentiator becomes skill.
3. Startups struggle with retaining good talent. But the bottom line is being balanced.
4. There’s one rule that applies to every business, there has to be stubbornness, a steadfastness saying this is what I want to do and I will do it.
5. Ego stops you from doing things that will add value to your company.
6. You need to figure out what you have a good time doing and do that.
