The big themes emerging from IIM Calcutta's Final Placement Season this year are - Strength in Banking & Finance and Consulting, Rise of E-Commerce and Technology and the number of students looking at starting their ventures straight from campus.
As was the case with IIM Bangalore, 1/3rd of the batch at IIM Calcutta had offers before the Final Placement season began. It is now a well known fact that for a career in Finance, IIM Calcutta is one of the best places to graduate from. In the world of Finance professionals, few schools in India have the strength and loyalty that IIM Calcutta alumni exhibit. The emergence of e-commerce and technology has been noted in almost every report this season, but at IIM Calcutta we have just about everyone who matters. The biggest e-commerce firms Amazon, Flipkart and Snapdeal have recruited from Joka and so have the two big cab service providers - Uber and Ola. IIM C remains among the top 4 campuses for Consulting in India (IIM A, B and ISB are the other three).
Similar to what we have observed at IIM A and IIM B, it is the FMCG firms that are the ones who seem have been hit again with the emergence of new sectors. The best talent in India today that doesn't get into Banking or Consulting, prefers newer sectors in the technology and e-commerce space than FMCG companies. We have enough data over the last 3 years to prove it.
