Since its inception, SPJIMR has strived to create leaders who can balance profit with purpose & the same is reflected in almost every interaction with our teachers who constantly motivate us to ‘design’ our ‘thinking’ in a way that we listen to what the world around us is trying to tell us & use these insights to create a difference.
‘Daan Utsav’ held on October 4
th marked the celebration of ‘Joy of Giving Week’ at the campus & was one such effort of the students to make our dear canteen and housekeeping staff feel happy to be a part of this ‘SPJIMR family’ as we call it. Though no mail or news article mentions or recognises their efforts, these are the people tirelessly working day & night towards making our lives happier at SPJIMR.
The concern of the hostel guard (our beloved ‘Chacha’), when we fall sick or our hostel ‘Didis’ consoling us on a rough day, bringing sweets from their homes on special occasions or a pleasant smile of our Bistro (cafeteria) ‘bhaiyya’ before the morning 8:30 class makes us feel at home. Soon the students feel a common thread of emotion running across when after days, we find many of them are also far away from their homes and miss their homes just like us. Their patience while conversing with us actually resembles that of a parent/well-wisher & yet again the pace of life allows little room to tell them about the significant impact they have created in our lives.
On the day of the event, professors & students came together, each one of them hung a special gift at the ‘Wall of Giving’ for these unsung heroes of our lives. The initiative witnessed a large participation from students across all programs who felt happy while sharing their love & humbly clicked selfies with the wall.
Few words of our canteen ‘Bhaiyya’ with a warm smile still resonates in my ears “
Aap logon ne jo gift diya hai bahut acha laga, magar usse bhi acha laga jo aap sab bache logon ne hamare liye time nikala” (I liked the celebration & gifts but more importantly I liked the time & efforts which the students had put in despite their busy schedules)
The celebration concluded with the inspiring words of our Dean sir wherein he emphasised that no matter how busy we are in our lives, we can always take some moments to pause & thank those people around us without whom this life would not have been the way it is. In his thanksgiving speech, he acknowledged the hard work & support of the staff members which has kept this institute running for many years.
With many pleasant interactions, insights & cherishable memories, the event concluded & we returned back to our homes with Courage & Heart, the motto of our institute beautifully imprinted in our hearts.
