Department of Management Studies, with its futuristic approach in imparting education has provided the students with a unique opportunity of international exposure through its “Global Field Study” program.     As a part of its academia curriculum, the students of DMS spent a week at various locations in Netherlands, Belgium & France; exploring new avenues, understanding the European businesses and cultural variations. ESSEC Business School, Paris

The students of DMS were extended a warm welcome by the students of Indian Association at ESSEC Business School. The interaction with the students from ESSEC came out to be quite a fruitful session where the students got to know more on the culture and a lot more information on the international business curriculum.
The session by Prof. Fourcadet on “The impact of IOT on old economy companies” has brought out quite a few interesting phenomenon regarding the impact of IOT on retail and other service sectors with the help of real time data processing systems.
The discussion also focused on the role and value proposition of strategy, and how the businesses could benefit with the appropriate adoption of technology into their business model. The classifica-tion of respective actions by the industries based on the short-term and long-term approaches and their level of control over them had given great insights into the approaches of business leaders.

AUDI Manufacturing Plant, Brussels The visit to AUDI, one of the premium car manufacturers of the world, provided the students with greater learnings regarding the state of art technology and the precision mechanisms that made the company distinguish itself from the rest. The tour gave the students a first-hand experience to observe the assembly line functions and body shop activities and validate on how their theoretical learnings take place in reality. The just-in-time and just-in-sequence process approach were followed to replenish the spare parts/material required from the suppliers. It was interesting to know that out of 20hrs of production time, 50% of the time was allocated to the paint shop. The body shop was highly automated with its 87% of work done through robots.   Another interesting observation was the presence of 2% of women employed in the plant. This came out to be hugely attributed to the cultural factor of Belgium. The program helped the students to understand how companies compete in international business with the stringent competitive environment. It provided the students with additional insights regarding the technological advancement of the European countries. The technology exposition of innovations in production, supply chain and maintenance with the concern to-wards the safety of workers were some of the key highlights of learnings of this visit. European Parliament, Brussels   The trip to European Parliament took the students a long way into the history and the formation of European Union. The interactive multimedia displays guided the students through the journey of European integration and its impact on the current day lives. The visit increased students awareness regarding the European Union and provided better knowledge regarding the legislations and the jurisdictions of Europe. Yakult Factory, Almere The Yakult visit was an enriching knowledgeable ex-perience teaching the students “The Business of Science” by the Japanese company “Yakult”, through the use of latest technologies in the preservation of probiotic milk-like products. One of the interesting fact is regarding the strategic placement of Yakult at Almere, which was mainly due to two major reasons:

Knowledge availability — The Dutch were well known for their interest and knowledge regarding the dairy product
Resource availability – Almere has got the best quality of water for fermentation

The visit to Yakult happened to be a great success in terms of the learnings and experiences of the students pertaining to a new segment of the industry. Heineken Brewery, Netherlands The brewery was established in Amsterdam in 1864 and today Heineken is a huge multinational company, one of the three largest beer producers in the world. Heineken visit was another wonderful experience, letting the students know about the brewing process involved in making Heineken stand special among the remaining. Simonehoeve- Cheese Farm & Wooden Shoe Factory, Netherlands Simonehoeve is a traditional cheesefarm and log factory where the students were informed about the famous cheese producing style of Netherlands and the well-known wooden shoe history and production mechanisms.   Fun Time

Besides exposure being the prime motive, the Europe trip provided the students with some remarkable memories to cherish throughout their lives. The students got a chance to visit the various prominent places in Europe during their transit.
The visit to Eiffel tower and Disney land remained the best tourist attractions visited during the trip. Along with these, students got an opportunity to visit some of the well known historic places and eminent places such as “The Louvre” museum, “Notre Dame de Paris”, “Madame Tussaud” and cruise at river Seine. The GFS program finally concluded with a lot of learnings and a great opportunity of international business exposure to the students of DMS, IIT Delhi.

The trip added a unique proposition to the students knowledge boosting their enthusiasm to work in a dynamic business environment. The experiences and the key takeaways of the trip will help the students develop a broad perspective of the globally followed business practices.     - Media Cell, DMS IIT Delhi
