On July 19th, SCMHRD was the venue for the campus launch of one of India’s most exciting corporate competitions, Godrej LOUD (Live Out Ur Dream) organized by the Godrej group. In its seventh edition, gracing the event were Ms. Vandana Scolt (Vice President of Communications Design-Campus Recruitment), Mr. Anubhav Gupta (Executive Vice President-Business head Vikhroli, Chief Design Officer, Head CSR and Sustainability) and Mr. Akhil Kalia (The Winner of Loud 2014-Assistant Sales Manager, Punjab). The event began with an electrifying performance by the Cultural committee of SCMHRD, backed by the energy of an audience that clapped, cheered and sang along to welcome the guests with full gusto. Mrs. Vandana then used her gravitas and charm to conduct a fun activity with a volunteer, where they would pull out chits and those who best fit the description, got the chance to receive some of the goodies they had brought along. The guests also took the opportunity to hand over the Pre-Placement Offers to five of the SCMHRD students who had interned in their company for the summers. It was a proud moment for the college, given the rigor of the selection process. This spoke volumes for the kind of talent Godrej sees in SCMHRD.Afterward, Ms. Vandana explained to the audience the format of Godrej Loud through a short video. She also took the opportunity to take the audience through the thought process behind LOUD, using her own life’s journey of being a freshly minted MBA from XIMB, to heading a very exciting Communications Design Team. From her talk, she shared her point of view on how important it is to look beyond the CV, of taking risks and initiatives, and of being financially independent. The audience was left feeling very inspired by her story.Mr. Anubhav expanded on the theme of following one’s passion through the story of his life. A less than average student during his school days, he found his passion for Architecture. He was a gold medalist in his under-graduation and then went to MIT to pursue his masters in the same. His work took him to London and Hong Kong, before he finally returned to India with Godrej Properties. There he helped build the Vikhroli ‘Godrej One’ office. He has also helped Godrej become a design-focused brand. He then took the students through the pictures of some of the spaces he has developed, before concluding that the students were ‘in his dream’ and that he hoped he was in theirs. It was Mr. Anubhav’s charm and his philosophy towards life that had all the students feel more connected to his story. It was very fitting that the third speaker was Mr. Akhil, who was a Godrej LOUD winner in 2014. Hailing from Karter in Punjab, he did in Bachelors and Masters in Pharmacology from Punjab University and the prestigious NIPER, before deciding to pursue his MBA from IIFT Delhi. Though he was in a field which worked with medicine, his first love was cars. He shared with the audience, how he always wanted to meet the designers of the Italian cars he loved so much (namely Lamborghini). He translated this passion into a video of him doodling his story over the course of 8 hours through the night. The end product was so beautiful that Ms. Vandana interjected that they use his project to show their media partners the high benchmarks he has set. After winning LOUD and interning at Godrej, Mr. Akhil got the chance to work there as well. After a two-year stint in hardcore sales, he has now been given the e-commerce portfolio to work with. His story helped many students get more clarity on the process of formulating their LOUD dream. In the ‘Question and Answer’ session that followed, the guests helped shed light on Godrej properties, their employer brand, HR initiatives (India Culture Labs, having unlimited sick leaves and uncapped bonuses), and the art of following one’s dream. Godrej being a 120 year ‘Young’ brand as they call themselves, was visible as the guests spoke and students learned a lot from the interaction. All in all, the event brought the Godrej ethos to the campus. The launch event was the first step towards that with very inspiring people telling very inspiring stories, and it only emboldened SCMHRD students to put their best foot forward with respect to their dreams.
