“Pehele mai apni biwi ko convince karu, fir apne baap ko convince karu, fir apni family ko convince karu… satra ka hai ye ….” (Just to let you know what I am talking about  - watch this). Finding a job after multiple rejections was now not only about an interview process for me, but was like a battle between me and interviewer, being me as a warrior with multiple swords on my shoulder and interviewer being the opponent. In the 20-minute interview process, I had to prove the interviewer for me as the appropriate fit for his company and to convince him that I was born to be the only candidate that fits the job description offered by him. I had to convince him that the job description is a Xerox of my Kundli.  Sometimes the interview used to be a kind of my conversation with my girlfriend in which most of the moment the interviewer tells me, “I am not convinced”.  Following were some of the answers which were in my mind but were articulated when comes out of my mouth:-
Why do you want to do MBA?
Thoughts in my mind: “Paisa, bangla, ladki, izzat”
Words from my mouth: "I wanted to fill the gap in my knowledge curve to take better business decisions"
Why do you want to be in Logistics?
Thoughts in my mind: “Sir mai to paida he logistics department k liye hua tha. Truck chalana toh mera passion hai!!”
Words from my mouth: “Being in logistics allows me to explore the sector and will enable me to apply my current knowledge to revolutionize the sector.”
What if you find a better job opportunity than us?
Thoughts in my mind: “Will find a good apology letter from google”
Words from my mouth: “Yours is a dream company for me. I will never leave the organization even if you say that I will be the next president of the USA.”
After answering all of these questions and getting selected in the process I realized that I have been befooled. I realized that I was convincing the person in front of me to give me a 9 to 5 job in which I have to work for someone else and make his company profitable. I realized that the company is paying me a socially handsome salary of 12 LPA and asking me to target a profitability of 10 crores in a quarter. What if I start working for myself and provide employment to others?
In that case, I have to convince only myself and to earn more salary than the regular 9 to 5 job. I am not among the ones who are in the spirit of TVF Pitchers and asking all the Jitus (the software developer in the show) to quit their jobs and open their startup. There are high probabilities that opening a startup with dreams of being Boston Consulting Group (BCG) might land you up with Babulal Consulting Group (BCG) if you are not realistic in your approach. Being an entrepreneur is as difficult as its spelling. It’s not easy to earn money by doing a business. Who among us has the aptitude to run a business if someone gives us Rs 5000 a month and earn profits in next two months? Being an entrepreneur is not only making a fancy business model canvas and pitching it in front of investors, it’s more than that. We are filled with all the knowledge (Marketing, Finance, Human Resources and of course Organisational Behaviour) and I bet all of us must have an idea in our mind which can be the next big thing. But the only reason why we don’t materialize the idea is that we are afraid of failure and hence we quit even before attempting it. We always had the option to choose between the right way and the easy way, and most of us land up to choose the later one which we call as common sense.
Just imagine what if 5 among of us who have invested around 15 lacs by taking loans for the masters’ education would have instead invested in materializing their idea. Asking an angel investor for funding would then have looked to be merely an opinion. Have a thought of not sitting in the final placements of the college and having your own venture in which you are coming as a recruiter for the same batch. For those all who are sad saying they don’t have any idea in their mind need to look things around them and identify problems in their society. Solving that problem can become the next big thing.
For all those who don't want to risk their diamonds can be an intrapreneur for their companies. Intrapreneurs are major contributors to increases in productivity within companies. Like entrepreneurs, intrapreneurs take risks and find more effective ways to accomplish tasks. Like the entrepreneur who starts a company with the goal of providing a good or service, the intrapreneur takes on a task within the company to increase the capacity of the company.
Entrepreneurship plays an influential role in the economic growth and standard of living of the country. As a startup founder or small business owner, you may think that you are simply working hard to build your own business and provide for yourself and your family. But you are actually doing a whole lot more for your local community, state, region, and the country as a whole. There is a very important role for entrepreneurs to spark economic development by starting new businesses, creating jobs, and contributing to improvement in various key economic and community development.
Let’s not define MBA for only being a good manager, the nation needs entrepreneurs to grow the business outline of the country, you can bring the next big change to the system. Rise and shine!
