Princi Sachan is currently pursuing her second year of MBA at IIM Indore. She had her Summer Internship with ICICI Bank and has a Pre-Placement Offer from ICICI Bank for the HR Role. This is a brief article about her internship experience along with a few tips which she would like to share with the upcoming batches of interns. What was the selection process followed by ICICI for summer placements? The screening happened at three levels before the interview, namely the initial resume shortlisting, the psychometric test and the group discussion. This is what the selection process for ICICI comprised of. What kind of projects were offered during the Summer Internship? The projects offered during the internship were really challenging and involved getting on one's feet for the primary research. The projects ranged from Employee Psychometric Analysis for Recruitment and Reallocation of roles to Researching into the Application of the Latest Behavioral Economics Theories in every aspect of an employee’s orientation in the Bank. To name a few, the topics were about the training programs, designing/redesigning, benchmarking, attrition analysis for various banking groups, etc. What kind of support did you receive from the senior leadership during your internship? ICICI Bank has an open-door policy. So we were given the freedom to approach any of the senior leaders at any point in time. They analyzed and reviewed the problems and solutions suggested by us very critically and offered by honest reviews which helped us in getting to the depth of the problem at hand. All the projects which were given to the interns were the actual problems faced by ICICI Bank and hence the guidance was also along the same lines. Mid-reviews were taken to gauge whether we were proceeding in correction direction or not and accordingly feedbacks were given by the senior leaders. How easy or difficult was it for you to acclimatize to the work environment and how did you go about it? The environment was very welcoming. We, the interns were also treated the same as the full-time employees and they all were easily approachable for all sorts of guidance and it was ensured right from the starting itself that the interns get to learn a lot of things during the two months period. I went with a receptive mindset for everything and kept an open mind to find answers to some basic questions like whether I will be a good cultural fit, whether my interest really lies in HR domain and looked forward in answering these questions. Are there any tips that you would like to give the upcoming batches regarding an internship with ICICI? Fetching a Pre-Placement Offer should not be the primary objective of any intern. It can be aspirational, but not something that you work for. Going forward with this attitude will cerainly free up a lot of mental bandwidth to pave the way for learning opportunities which ICICI Bank provides in abundance. ______________________________ We wish Princi all the very best for her future endeavours!
