A Business School is not just about academic learning but also is a lot about providing peer-to-peer collaborative opportunities, helping students develop the art of dealing with diverse personalities in a group, and most importantly, encouraging them to take up positions of responsibility may that be of a member or as a part of the core student body. Developing leadership traits requires real-time practice, and these opportunities ultimately aid the student to learn to execute and operate in the practical world. As B-Schools shifted to digital platforms, during the unforeseen year of the pandemic, academic curriculum adapted to this transformation rapidly but how did the student bodies cope up with this unexpected situation? as the importance of them will always remain crucial to experience the true B-School culture. To explore this further, we recently spoke to four current student heads of such prominent clubs & committees at TAPMI. Let’s find out how they faced this adversity and managed to come out of it with flying colours.Parth Wadhwa – CEO, Samnidhy - A legally registered, student-managed mutual fund, maintaining a short investment horizon of 2 years which invests money pooled in by the student community at TAPMI in blue-chip stocks across 13 different sectors“Go check in the Bloomberg Lab! That’s what any TAPMIian would say if you were to look for a Samnidhian on campus. We literally use to spend the day (and of course late nights) at the lab brainstorming market trends, reading the Bloomberg news feed, discussing what market veterans had to say. So, when COVID struck and we had to evacuate, everything came to a virtual standstill and we were forced to deliberate how the 70-member strong team could coordinate virtually. The move to video calls was swift and in no time, we were up and running, having our weekly meetups while recruiting & inducting the junior batch Samnidhians and wrapping up the 2020 NFO. Virtual meetings meant we could now invite seasoned industry professionals to share their insights with the team just by taking out an hour on their calendar. This is how FinEd was conceptualized and we ended up hosting a series of webinars for our investor community & the Samnidhy team. FinEd 2.0 is already in the works and we’re going to have it in January’21”Interested in joining the thriving student community at TAPMI? ARC brings the power of this strong alum base closer to the students.“Change brings opportunity. ARC at TAPMI with the tagline "Connect, Bond, Network" carries out various activities to drive the alumni engagement with the institute. With the world shifting to the online mode, we quickly worked out new plans to engage with our esteemed alumni. The Pride of TAPMI series was launched to celebrate the success of our eminent alumni – they came forward in large numbers to show their support to the institute and also addressed the students on various topics about the industry as part of the Ignite webinar series. The ASPIRE webinar series was launched to connect the PGP 1 students with our alumni, who guided them to make the most out of their MBA journeys. Also, to keep the spirit of alumni homecoming alive, we hosted online meets for the entire batch to celebrate 25 years and 20 years of graduation for our alumni. To further improve the engagement, a large-scale mentorship program - VISION was initiated where each PGP 1 student was mapped with one alum. Through these mentorship sessions, students had an opportunity to clarify their doubts about the MBA journey, get valuable industry perspectives, and set a path to achieve their career goals. We would soon be launching our bi-yearly newsletter and the yearly magazine.”Paras Diwan - Convener, B.R.A.Ts (Bikers, Runners, and Trekkers) of TAPMI- It provides an opportunity to students at TAPMI to connect over their mutual love for adventure.“BRATs objective is to provide opportunities to the students of TAPMI by organizing various events that provide a break from the monotony of one’s daily schedule. Most events organized by BRATs aim to spread awareness to address social issues. During this challenging year, it was expected that BRATs would not be able to conduct the usual events, but the team took it up as a challenge and made an impact by conducting various fitness-related activities and informative sessions virtually along with curating weekly wellness emailers. One such event was - ‘Fix-it’, which aimed to make the bikers aware of the specific technicalities with motorcycles and common problems faced by riders during their trip. The session was conducted by Mr. Javed Khureshi, a certified technical expert from Harley Davidson. Another event was ‘Happy Stretch’, which was an online power yoga session conducted by Ms. Anshu Fauzdar, a practitioner and trainer from the US. Some other successful events for the year were - ‘Sohamm’ – An online guided meditation session, and ‘Sky Seekers’- A webinar on mountaineering rules.”Michael Thomas – Convener, Welfare Committee – It manages most of the non-academic student activities on campus and bridges the gap between students and the administration. It is responsible for the smooth functioning of the mess and hostels, organizing festival celebrations on the campus, and caters to the medical and health needs of the students.“In an effort to make TAPMI a ‘Home away from Home’, the Welfare Committee over the years has had the privilege of bringing together its diverse set of students, faculty, staff to celebrate festivals on campus. This year though students were away in all parts of the country, the spirit was no different. Festival celebrations were a mix of virtual interactions in the form of creative content and competitions along with festivities on campus, thanks to our faculty and staff. Filled with activities, throwbacks, and a lot of fun, these ongoing interactions have helped our newest batch of students bond with each other and also appreciate the TAPMI way of life!”From the conversation, it’s only evident that the students at TAPMI have shown a tremendous zeal towards keeping up the spirit of togetherness and belongingness within the community, despite constraints, and have surely demonstrated an unshakable passion for collective growth. We wish them all the best for all their future initiatives.Click here to know more about the eligibility/selection criteria and apply for the PGDM program at TAPMI*This is a promoted featureIf you want to be a part of the TAPMI world, then click here to know more
