Management is the pursuit of bringing order into business. It is the process that builds the bedrock of a stronger, more valuable economy. It involves leaders who understand the intricacies of their businesses at the front-line level and make conscious efforts in aligning knowledge with experience, to provide the best solutions. Today, we will delve deeper in knowing the story of one such individual who has been transforming the lives of many through her visionary steps at IMI Kolkata preparing future leaders.   IMI Kolkata, led by Dr. Mohua Banerjee is the oldest member of the IMI Kolkata family and is presently the Director of the institute. She has made some outstanding contributions to the field of management research as she was deeply involved in collaborative Research Projects – on retail with the University of Oxford and on agro-entrepreneurship with Leeds Beckett University, UK. Her pioneering efforts in the field of research have been inspiring.  With the Oxford Institute of Retail Management, she has explored the development scenarios in the Indian retail market. An awardee of the prestigious UGC-UKIERI Research Grant Project with Leeds Beckett University, UK, during 2018-2021, she has researched Sustainable Entrepreneurship in Agriculture as well. Dr. Banerjee has been teaching subjects in the Marketing domain in several foreign Universities. She has authored several research papers in international journals of repute that are available across scholarly indexes. Being a thorough reader and phenomenal writer, she has published books and a case study that is available on the Harvard Business School Publishing. She also writes opinion pieces for management practitioner journals and newspapers. With her academic experience of over 17 years and previous roles at IMI Kolkata, Dr. Banerjee has helped the institute undergo a massive transformation. She has helped foster team spirit and played the role of an exemplary educator/leader in all these years. Dr. Banerjee has been intensely involved in most of the department verticals, predominantly Admissions, Placements, and Corporate Relations.  Her confidence as Director of IMI Kolkata sparkles through when she speaks and opines about important as well as debatable issues. Her Distinguished Leadership award from Chartered Management Institute (CMI), UK, under the AICTE-UKIERI Programme in 2018 goes on to equip her strong leadership skills and bringing about transformational changes in organizations. From inculcating values in students that shape the core of their personalities to nurturing them with engaging and empowering sessions, she has been a key figure in shaping the future of an IMIK student. Throughout her career, she has been involved with many national and international management projects. She has been practicing corporate governance in her role as an Independent Director in several manufacturing companies and is a member of the Governance Committee.  She is also the recipient of the “Prof. Indira Parikh – 50 Women in Education Leaders” Award from the World Education Congress, 2019. She believes that every student of IMI Kolkata, one of the best management institutions in India, has the potential to make meaningful contributions in their work domains and become a leading figure in the business world who will continue to take the IMI Kolkata brand to a higher growth trajectory.
