When did you start preparing for the GD-PI-WAT Process? How much time did you dedicate (daily and overall)?
I started preparing for my gdpi process post declaration of exam result as I was certain that I’d be getting an interview call at my percentile (99.43). So, it was during the last week of January that I started preparing arduously. I prepared for 1-2 hours in a day. Since I was working at that time, to devote more time was a difficult task for me.
What kinds of resources did you use during your preparation?*
I used to prepare from a GDPI series that I took from Catking. They regularly held classes for 1-2 hours on different topics that could be asked in the extempore during the interview.
I also gave a lot of mock PIs in which I was grilled and asked probing questions based on my academic background and work experience. I’d strongly suggest being prepared with quirky topics and lots of current affairs so as to make it to further rounds.

Did you prepare through self-study or coaching? What was your reasoning for the decision?
I prepared through coaching since in my first attempt I tried self study but due to lack of mocks, I wasn’t able to fare well. Mock interview practices are very important. Try to take as many as 4 mock interviews before the actual one. Try taking a lot of PIs before you appear for the final interview.
What were the biggest challenges you faced during your preparation for the GD-PI-WAT process?
The biggest challenge that I faced was my articulation speed. Since the interview was to be held online, I had to be extra cautious about my articulation speed. You don’t have to be very fast or even fast. And stammering in interviews should be avoided as much as possible. In my opinion, honesty and ingenuity goes a long way in acing interviews. That is why I’d suggest to be upfront about topics you know about and politely decline the questions you have no idea of.
