The purpose of this study was to understand how the HR team of Bain and Company, India Pvt Ltd, functions to make sure that the human needs of the organization are met and how the changing requirements of the organization are catered to.
For an organization that is committed to delivering results to its clients and adding value to the industry as a whole, it is important to ensure a motivated workforce. And to have a dedicated workforce, it is important to focus equally on all processes related to human capital starting from recruitment and placement and all the way to career planning and progression.
Therefore to completely understand the HR operations of the company, it required to take up several sort term projects pertaining to different aspects of the field throughout the course of the internship.
Starting with
Recruitment for CSS (Consulting Support Services) staff, I understood the process that went behind choosing the right candidate for specific roles in Information services and Finance. It also made me understand how the process is designed differently for different roles having varied job specifications.
Moving on to
Induction for Consulting staff particularly a batch of new JC’s (Junior Consultants), took an understanding of how the program was designed and the reason behind having a standardized curriculum throughout all Bain offices. A comprehension of the entire structure of the induction was needed to help conduct the same effectively.
Next project focused on
Inclusion and integration of lateral hires within the organization. This involved being a part of an ongoing program called NB2B (New Bainee to Bainee) initiative and help plan an offsite for the newly joined people part of the program and facing issues in blending with the culture of the firm.
After this I moved on to understand the importance of retaining talent within the firm through working on the
Attrition Defense Program that Bain India has in place. This ensures that the people performing well are appreciated and are encouraged to stay with the organization.
The overall internship period required a basic grasp of HR functions and led to a more profound cognizance of actual working of the Human Resource department of a globally renowned management consulting firm.
