Continuing his talk, Praveen tells us about how he first discovered Product Management. He took up the role at a time where even the company that hired him wasn’t sure what Product Management was. The company in question is Myntra, and what followed was a very interesting career journey. Finishing his MBA from IIM Bangalore, Praveen moved on to Myntra, where he truly began to understand what Product Management is and how one can navigate their career in this field. From Myntra, Praveen moved to InMobi, India’s first Unicorn company.
In this video, Praveen speaks at length about product management, and the skills and attitudes one needs to be able to succeed as a Product Manager. He compares Product Managers to Film Directors; they might not be the most talented people in the team: they might not be the ones who’ve put in the money, neither might they be the most hardworking members; what they have is a clear vision, and it is their responsibility to make sure that vision is executed in the best, most successful way.
