IIFT 2019 Test Pattern - Important Points To Keep In Mind

  1. IIFT 2019 has gone online, i.e., the examination will now be a Computer Based Test (CBT). IIFT 2018 was conducted in pencil-paper mode.
  2. The IIFT 2019 exam is likely to comprise a total of six sections - English Grammar, Vocabulary and Comprehension, Quantitative Analysis, Data Interpretation, Logical Reasoning, and General Awareness.
  3. Though the latest number of questions is not yet known, in the past 5 years, IIFT has had an average of 121 questions. IIFT 2018 had 114 questions. Each year, the number of questions varies, and in fact, IIFT 2009 had a total of 150 questions. Given below is the IIFT 2018 paper pattern and minimum cut-offs.

Section Number of questions Marks per question Sectional cut-off Maximum marks
    Data Interpretation 20 1 1.01 20
    Logical Reasoning 20 1 2.36 20
    General Knowledge 18 0.5 1.14 9
    Reading Comprehension 16 1 3.34 16
    Verbal Ability 20 0.75 2.75 15
    Quantitative Aptitude 20 1 2.34 20
    Total 114 12.94 100

In IIFT 2018, a candidate had to score a minimum of 12.94 marks to be eligible for the GD-PI shortlisting process. Here is a complete analysis of the IIFT 2018 exam.

  4. The IIFT exam usually has a negative marking of 33.33% or 1/3 of the total marks assigned to that question. This could change for IIFT 2019, but it is unlikely.
  5. IIFT 2018, given that it was a pencil-paper test, allowed test-takers to traverse through either examination, i.e., the sections could be attempted in any order of the candidates' choosing.
To understand the IIFT paper pattern better, take a look at the IIFT previous years' papers here.

Must-Read After Registering For IIFT 2019

IIFT as an exam is distinct from other major exams such as CAT due to a different marking scheme, the inclusion of a GK section, and a different paper pattern altogether. Here are some preparation strategies from IIFT Delhi students who cracked the IIFT exam:
