IIM Ahmedabad's selection criteria 2019 for the PGP 2020-2022 batch has been released! IIM Ahmedabad has revised the selection criteria for PGP admissions in 2019 by introducing work experience as a new selection criterion to get shortlisted for the Academic Writing Test and Personal Interview round. Here is how the latest selection criteria will affect your chances of getting admission to IIM Ahmedabad.

IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria 2019 - Highlights

Here are the major takeaways from IIM Ahmedabad's latest selection criteria for 2019: 1. IIM Ahmedabad has introduced work experience as an admission criterion for the flagship PGP programme. Candidates with less than 12 months of work experience are awarded no points while working professionals with over 36 months (3 years) of work experience are awarded 5 points. Those with work experience between 12 and 36 months (inclusive) will receive work experience rating scores based on the following formula: Work Experience Rating Score = MF * (N-11), where N is the number of months of work experience and Multiplication Factor (MF) = 0.2. The maximum score by using this formula is 5 points, while the minimum score is 0.2. For instance, if you have 18 months of work experience, you will be awarded a score of 1.4 out of a maximum of 5. 2. All applicants with an Engineering, Technology or Architecture background in IIM Ahmedabad's AC-4 category have it tough again, with a graduation score > 85% required for a perfect 10 score. 3. For Round 1 of shortlisting by IIM Ahmedabad based on academic excellence, the formula for calculation has changed since 2018. In 2018, the CAT score accounted for 70% of the composite score. In 2019, the CAT score accounts for 65% of the composite score, while the Application Rating Score accounts for 35% of the composite score. 4. IIM Ahmedabad continues to not provide any additional points for gender diversity. IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria 2019 - Overview

IIM Ahmedabad's selection for the 2-year PGP programme is a two-step process. The first step is a screening process based on academic excellence, while the second step is the selection of candidates not meeting the 'academic excellence' criteria. IIM Ahmedabad calculates a composite score, which takes into account a candidate's academic performance, work experience, as well as the candidate's CAT performance.

IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria 2019 - Minimum CAT Cut-Offs

In order to be even considered for shortlisting, it is important for candidates to meet the minimum sectional as well as overall cut-offs set by IIM Ahmedabad. The following are the minimum sectional and overall CAT 2019 percentile cut-offs for IIM Ahmedabad:
Category Verbal and Reading Comprehension percentile rank
(VA RC)
Data Interpretation & Logical Reasoning percentile rank
(DI LR)
Quantitative Aptitude percentile rank
(QA)
Overall percentile rank
General 70 70 70 80
NC-OBC-cum-transgender 65 65 65 75
SC 60 60 60 70
ST 50 50 50 60
PwD (General, NC-OBC-cum-transgender, SC) 60 60 60 70
PwD (ST) 50 50 50 60
Note - Simply meeting the minimum CAT cut-offs is not a guarantee of a call from IIM Ahmedabad. IIM Ahmedabad computes a composite score (CS) which comprises an applicant's Application Rating (AR) score and CAT score, within which the CAT score has a higher weight than an applicant's AR score, implying that a higher CAT score presents a better opportunity for a shortlist from IIM Ahmedabad.

IIM Ahmedabad Admission Criteria 2019 - Shortlisting Process

Application Rating (AR) Score

A candidate's application rating score is calculated by combining the candidate's performance in 10th, 12th, Graduation, and their work experience (in months). The following is the formula to calculate a candidate's AR score: AR Score = A+B+C+D, where A=Points for Class 10th marks, B=Points for Class 12th marks, C=Points for Graduation marks, D=Points for work experience. A - Points For 10th Marks

Composite Score (CS)

An applicant's composite score is a weighted score that accounts for a candidate's AR score as well as their CAT performance. The following formula is used to calculate a candidate's CS: Composite Score = 0.35 * (Normalisedλ AR Score) + 0.65 * (Normalised CAT 2019 score) λ - Normalised AR score of an applicant is equal to their AR score divided by average of the top 50 AR scores from the applicants' pool.

IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria 2019 - Stage 1

"From each of the academic categories (AC) for which the total number of applicants to IIMA who appear for CAT-2019 from SC/ST/NC-OBC/PwD categories is at least 100, the top 5% in the respective AC limited to the respective categories (General/SC/ST/NC-OBC/PwD) among the applicants to IIMA who appear for CAT-2019, henceforth referred to as ACRC groups, will be shortlisted for AWT & PI on the basis of the composite score ‘CS' subject to their fulfilling criteria C1-C3." "Any AC, for which the total number of applicants to IIMA who appear for CAT-2019 from SC/ST/NC-OBC/PwD categories is less than 100, will not be subdivided into ACRCs as above. For such an AC, the top 100 or the top 5% in the respective AC among all the applicants to IIMA who appear for CAT-2019, whichever is less, will be shortlisted for AWT & PI on the basis of the composite score ‘CS' subject to their fulfilling criteria C4-C6."

IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria 2019 - Stage 2

After removing the candidates selected in Stage 1 from each category (General, NC-OBC, SC, ST and PWD) the additional number of candidates to be shortlisted for AWT & PI will be selected on the basis of the composite score ‘CS' (see above) subject to their fulfilling criteria C1-C2.

IIM Ahmedabad Selection Criteria 2019 - Final Composite Score (FCS)

A candidate's final composite score (FCS) is a weighted score calculated after the AWT-PI process and accounts for the candidate's performance in the Academic Writing Test (AWT) and Personal Interview, CAT scores, and the candidate's AR score. The following is the process for calculating the FCS: Final Composite Score = 0.5 * (Normalised PI score) + 0.1 * (Normalised AWT score) + 0.25 * (Normalised CAT score) + 0.15 * (Normalised AR score) NoteThe normalised PI and AWT scores of a candidate are their scores in the respective field divided by the average of the top 1% scores in the same field respectively.
