BODHI PRAVAAH MINDFULNESS by Samatvam, IIM Bodh Gaya The term “mindfulness” refers to accepting and focusing on one’s thoughts, sensations, and emotions. It is about how we feel and react to things. The past year has made us realize that it is not only important to be happy and smile but also to have peace of mind. Mindful meditations are an effective way to identify emotions, manage them, and also to have a calm state of mind. Samatvam, the Mindfulness Center, IIM Bodhgaya, on the 12th of September 2021, celebrated “World Mindfulness Day” by organizing an enlightening meditation session for students. The event started with a lively video of all the memories and thoughts that connect the students to the idea of mindfulness, self-love, and inner peace. Coupled with entertaining music and loads of testimonials and photographs shared by the students, the beginning of the event was enjoyed by all and marked as one of the best ways to start a Sunday morning. This was followed by a soothing talk by Dr. Vinita Sahay, director, IIM Bodh Gaya, who emphasized the importance of the subconscious mind. She started the talk by mentioning that it is in our control to have a good relationship with our peer members, simply by not judging people and welcoming them with open hearts. Emphasizing the fact that the subconscious mind develops with time and experience, she went on to say that it is about the constant practice of imagination, thinking, and self-actualization. She shared how important it is to overcome our fears by changing our perspective about something or someone. A discussion was also held on how important it is to control our anger and how peace can be attained by simply staying away from social media and reducing screen time for at least some time every day. The director herself conducted the Bodhi Pravaah meditation session for the day. With her words and knowledgeable ideas about calmness and peace, she took the students on a short yet soothing and cherishable journey of mindfulness meditation. At the end of the event, Dr. Nidhi Mishra, Chairperson, Samatvam, extended a vote of thanks to the respected director and all the students who joined the session- again laying a special emphasis on the need to understand the balance between the conscious and the subconscious mind, that can be hit right by constantly practicing meditation. Such meditation practices, as science says, are essential for students to improve their concentration and have introspection. These sessions make them realize that during the constant rush to achieve their goals and the stress that they encounter daily, concentrating on self and being mindful of the smallest of things can lead to greater satisfaction and peace of mind.
