IIM Shillong - Adapt-Improvise-Overcome!

What goes on inside the top B-Schools of the country? How is life inside these hallowed campuses? What does it feel like to interact with the brightest minds of the country? I remember entering the gates of IIM Shillong with a plethora of questions like these, a year ago. Halfway through the journey, I feel that I’m in a position to not only have clear answers but also be proud that the campus I chose did justice to all the expectations of an ambitious young man.

The ecosystem is completely different from any other academic institution, be it school, graduation college and most post-graduation colleges. The modern curriculum followed here has redefined the learning experience to match with the best international business schools. The classroom environment is facilitated by faculty who follow a growth-oriented pedagogy, which lays its focus on making sure that the learning takes place beyond what’s there in the text book. Each and every person present inside the classroom structure is expected to grow as an individual after every session. The dialogue that happens during the lecture is what every participant looks forward to, which makes sure there is less teaching and more learning that happens every day. All of this is so unprecedented in the routine of all the students that we are first made to “un-learn” our learning practices and then start our MBA expedition with a clean slate. This becomes vital when you have to deal with real-life cases with no single answers to the problem statements.

There are no surprises in the fact that life at a business school can be very tough, it’s filled with hard-hitting challenges and unique obstacles. My campus helps us deal with them with its rich culture of peer learning. All of us come with diverse and exclusive background and skill sets, a compact batch size enables us to know the go-to person for any problem. We anticipate, acclimate and annihilate the everyday hassles together.

Every initiative on the calendar is something incepted by students in the past and the legacy is taken forward on the shoulders of the coming batches. The environment is such that even after an agonizing routine, all of us are always motivated to begin something new which would take the name of the college in the forward direction. The campus lives, breathes and grows in an incredible synergy.

I have an Idea!

I was lucky to work in the telecom circle in my summer internship, the high turbulence setting in this sector ensures that there is learning at an insane rate, which makes me feel that working at “Idea Cellular” will be something I would like to grace as the next step in my career. The fact that Idea stands as one of the most influential players in the market will ensure that I will begin my career on a pedestal. Future holds immense potential in both the telecom market and in the brand Idea, the recent developments as an impending merger with Vodafone India ensures that when all the recent unrest in the telecom market ends, Idea will emerge as a key shaper, which fits right in my professional plan of building a concrete global career.
