IIM Shillong - The Campus In The Clouds And The North East Connect

IIM Shillong, or as it is lovingly called by its participants, the ‘Campus in the Clouds’ is an institute that takes great pride in its culture and location.

Situated in the beautiful abode of the clouds, Meghalaya, this is one of the campuses in the country that’ll truly take your breath away. The views that the campus provides us is nothing short of stunning. In the beginning of the academic year, we are treated to clear blue skies that look like something out a child's imagination. As the monsoon sets in, the clouds start rolling into the campus. And by that, I mean that the clouds start rolling into the classrooms. Multiple lectures take a pause because that’s just what you do when nature decides to have its way with you. As the winter begins, the cherry blossoms on campus all go into full bloom and we are treated to picture perfect sights at every turn. All through the year, we are treated to nature at its beast.

What adds on to the beauty of the campus is the beauty of the people all around. Everyone who comes to the city can learn something from the locals of Shillong. The levels of contentment and peace that they have in life is sublime. There is no maddening rush to get to the next big thing, and instead people are very happy with what they have. The priorities that they have are very different, and quite striking. All those who visit the city leave with a fresh perspective on life.

It is these people that IIM Shillong wishes to engage with in terms of being a catalyst for the north east. Right from the inception of the institute, we have constituted CEDNER, which is the Center for Development of North Eastern Region. CEDNER provides both long term and short term programs to the local community and society of the state and general region. Opportunities that may otherwise be unavailable to the members of the community are provided by the institute. CEDNER offers training to young entrepreneurs, business owners and executives in the realms of skill development and business and entrepreneurial activity. IIM Shillong, through CEDNER, aims to create an environment of growth and business in the North East, providing the stimulus needed for it through its programs and proposes to do so and continue with this endeavor for the coming many years.

The Aditya Birla Group company I would like to work for would be Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited (ABFRL). This is still a very young industry in our country, and an exciting one at that. Poised to achieve immense growth over the next few years, this is a space that has huge prospects for growth and innovation. ABFRL is looking to constantly grow and take full advantage of the growth of the industry and bring in and fully develop new opportunities as they arise, or create them themselves. Working in a company like ABFRL, with the culture of passion and speed of the Group embedded in its DNA, would be a great learning experience.
