When people think of any Indian Institute of Management, they often picturise an organization driven by engrossed people, people living a fast life, life with goals and targets, targets that make you run a marathon, marathon which doesn’t let you pause for a moment and actually “LIVE” that moment. At least that is what I thought about IIMs before becoming a part of one. But life never seizes to surprise you.
I have been living without my parents for almost 12 years now and because I was never able to live in a city long enough to fall for it, I simply believed that a place can never hold you, and I couldn’t have been more wrong. It’s been thirteen months since I first saw Shillong and I’ve been in love with her ever since. You enter Shillong in the month of June, so you can imagine how soothing it must have felt to be in a place where you feel a cold breeze on your face as you walk under a cloudy sky, not enough to rain but enough to keep you cool. This is what families from the rest of the country look for in summers when they pay top dollar and travel hundreds of miles. This was going to be my home for the next two years. The IIM Shillong campus, which is sitting on a mountain, is the best part of being here.
I’d like to share a typical IIM Shillong afternoon experience.
We were leaving our classrooms, with a lot of new thoughts and a ton of work to do. The workload was enormous and we all were tired, not physically but mentally. As we proceeded towards our rooms, I couldn’t help but notice that there was something odd. As I looked up, I saw that the sky was bleeding and as I traced the source of that blood, I found the sun, burning red but gentle to look at. The ambience imprisoned me. I lost the track of time, of who I was or what I was supposed to do. I just kept staring at it, astounded by it.
Slowly, I felt that it was becoming harder for me to see the sun. At first, I thought it was fog but as I turn around, I see a dense cloud slowly moving randomly and distorting the view. I was literally above the clouds. At that moment, I was liberated from all the responsibilities because I was living the moment.
They say that our life is not one big certificate of success that we achieved or died to achieve, but it is a book of million lives we touched and billion small adventures we lived. If that’s true, then IIM Shillong is definitely going on the cover page of mine.
Aditya Birla Group
I’m determined to join Aditya Birla Retail Ltd. because I’ve always been eager to be a marketer in the food processing sector and contribute to a market giant by managing top brands of the industry. ABG Retail Ltd. is not only built on hardworking people’s efforts and efficient operations, but it’s also standing on strong ethical values and principles, which I’d be honoured to be a part of.
