The Indian Institute of Management, Shillong has completed its placement process for the graduating batch of 2014. The highest international package offered to the students of IIM Shillong this year stood at Rs. 37 lakhs, where as the highest domestic package stood at Rs. 22 lakhs.
This year, a total of 53 companies participated during the placement process giving offers to a batch of 107 students of IIM Shillong. The average package went up from the last year and stood at Rs. 12.49 lakhs. 18% of the batch already had Pre-Placement Offers (PPO’s) for their outstanding performance during their summer internships.
Prominent recruiters like Mahindra GMC, Deloitte, Nomura, GSK Pharma, HSBC, Tata Steel, ICICI Bank among others continued to show faith in the talent nurtured among the students of IIM Shillong.
Tata Steel emerged as the largest recruiter giving out 8 offers this year. Companies like Aditya Birla Group, Amazon, Maruti Suzuki, IBM, Wipro among others emerged as the new entrants in the recruiters list of IIM Shillong giving offers to the batch.
The placement season also saw a surge in number of PSUs participating in the process with companies like BPCL, Oil India Ltd, and Powergrid Corporation of India Ltd. giving out offers to the students of IIM Shillong.
2 students opted out of the process to pursue challenging and uncharted paths. While one would be joining family business, the other student would pursue a career in development sector by participating in the Prime Minister’s Rural Development Fellow Scheme, an initiative by Government of India to work towards the betterment of marginalized groups in the disadvantaged regions of the country.
Prof. Sanjoy Mukherjee, Chairman of the Placement Committee, attributed the success of the placement season of IIM Shillong to the institute’s growing reputation and capability shown by the students of the college.
