IIM Shillong - Getting Away To Get Somewhere

Coming to IIM Shillong was nothing less than a dream for me, but what I experienced right from the moment I got into the cab which was supposed to take me to the campus from Guwahati airport was nothing short of enthralling. The alluring sights of the mountains will always be part of my memories. But one thing that was even more beautiful than the journey was what I experienced when I got to the campus.

In addition to all the help that was provided by the team of seniors before we got to campus, they were present to help us when we reached campus. Right from getting registered to helping us to our rooms, the seniors were there every step of the way. It gave me a glimpse of what life was going to be like here at IIM Shillong. Although there has been a lot of talk about how the small batch size at IIM Shillong is a disadvantage, what I have seen and experienced since I have been here showed me how tight knit the group here is and how everyone staying on campus knows each other. This is something I believe is very unique to our campus. We eat, stay, study and play together. The campus is vibrant and full of life.

The first few weeks have been a very unique experience with sessions where the seniors took out time from their busy schedules to help bring our batch up to speed and get us ready for the academic rigor. The foundation course on sustainability, which is one of the most unique features of IIM Shillong, was a really great experience and showed how much the campus believes in the idea of sustainability. The foundation course ended with a trek organised by the professor. We first walked through the sacred forest of Mawphlang and then trekked through Ladmawphlang. It was one of the most surreal experience of my life. There probably is no other business school who’s students get to experience this.

The regular term having begun, it has been an absolutely amazing experience. The bonding between my fellow batchmates has been good so has the one between the new and the senior batch. We have got to experience the faculty who are very qualified and experienced. Along with the college, the locals in Shillong have been very helpful and welcoming. I cannot stress how much I’m looking forward to the next two years, of being a part of IIM Shillong and to exploring this amazing city of Shillong.
