Hours seemed like minutes and minutes seemed like seconds while organizing the seventh season of Golf Cup, the flagship event of IIM Shillong. The two day extravaganza that was held on 11
th-12
th October was graced by dignitaries from civil and defence world and renowned politicians of Meghalaya. The grandeur of the event was unparalleled with corporates from various industries and golf enthusiasts participating in huge numbers. The event was conducted in association with Meghalaya Tourism. The inaugural tee off was done by
Mr A.L. Hek, Minister of Health and Family Welfare, Information and Public Relations and Information Technology, Government of Meghalaya. “Gleneagles of the East”, the Shillong Golf Course is often referred to as one of the few natural courses and the world’s wettest golf course. Besides being scenic and enjoyable, it is also a challenging course for the golfers.
The run up to the mega event witnessed the launch of the mascot “Pappy, the Golfer” by
Dr. Mukul Sangma, honourable Chief Minister of Meghalaya on 19
th September, 2014.The mascot represented the legacy and spirit of Meghalaya. IIM Shillong’s first ever Marathon-'Run for Shillong' held in association with Red Bull promoted the culture and heritage of Shillong and raised the curtains for the Golf Cup to commence. The marathon supported the great cause of Sustainability by promoting the cleanliness of Ward’s lake and safeguarding Shillong Golf Course from deterioration. It was inaugurated by our Director, Professor Amitabha De. Along with the Golf Cup, we had our Annual B-School fest Khlur-thma which witnessed massive participation of over 8000 students from 80 B-Schools across the country.
The whole experience of organising such a grand event was exhilarating for the student fraternity besides being a real life management lesson. The very objective of the student fraternity was to provide incomparable lifetime experiences to whoever attended the event. To ensure everything was perfectly managed and coordinated, the student fraternity was divided into teams such as Reception, Registration, Conveyance, Refreshments, Accommodation, and Operations. Everyone was on his/her toes to make sure that everything was being managed effectively and efficiently.
We at IIM Shillong firmly believe “Golf isn't merely a leisure sport. It's the martini lunch of the modern workforce, the vivacious venue where business gets done.”
