My Journey to IIM, Shillong started from the Guwahati railway station, where I boarded a cab to reach the campus in clouds. This was my first visit to the North-East and I had heard a lot about its natural beauty. The beautiful weather and the journey which was full of scenic beauty, proved it true. Nature had more for me, as soon as I entered the hallowed gates of the institute, I was mesmerised by the greenery and the beauty of the campus. I was elated as it was going to be my home for the next two years.
The beauty of the campus does not just lie on natural aspects but even on the principles that we follow here. The institute places a lot of importance on sustainability. The same is evident as we need to be careful in the consumption of electricity, water, food, etc. and practise sustainability in all our activities. The institute strives to lead the change as it has resolved to be plastic free. Also, the course starts with a foundation course on sustainability. In the course, over a period of week, we explore sustainability through the lenses of strategy, marketing, economics, operations, etc. This helps us to understand sustainability and how it is shaping the world around us. A lot of activities too are performed during the course which helps us to understand and imbibe in us the spirit of sustainability. The course ends with a trek to Law Kyntang or Sacred Forest.
The foundation course sets a path for us, so that whatever we learn through the course of the next two years we should be able to relate it with sustainability and think in that direction. The course also motivates us to think of sustainable solutions for the problems around us. We as future managers and entrepreneurs need to be responsible and it is our decisions that are going to shape the future, so we should adopt and practise sustainability.
Aditya Birla Group - Company I would like to work for
I would like to be a part of Aditya Birla Retail Limited. Since the time that I first entered a supermarket, I am curious about how the supply is met, how the shop floor is organised, how the selection of products is done, what is done to increase footfall of customers, etc. I believe by being a part of the company I will be able to get the answers to my questions and also learn a lot of things which are not evident to an outsider. The experience will help me learn and grow and I might as well be able to contribute towards the growth of the company.
