Out of a batch of 180, almost 33% of the students graduated from eminent institutes like IIT’s, NIT’s, BITS Pilani, SRCC & Ramjas College. Apart from these, we have multiple charted accountants and certified financial analysts. With such a diverse batch, the competition ought to be intense academically. But, with so many CA’s and CFA’s around, the candidate who got an A+ (highest grade awarded) in managerial accounting is an engineer who graduated neither from commerce nor has an under graduation degree from eminent IITs or NITs. One may wonder the reason behind this anomaly which is rarely occurred in other management Institutes. Well, let me explain the reason behind this. Our batch is very closely knit, and I can proudly say that each one of the 180 people is a friend of the other. There are no egos and no groups at our college. We as a batch highly believe in peer learning, and that is the reason each one of us is equally good in all subjects irrespective of our under-graduation backgrounds. The classrooms in our college are always open and every night after the rigorous daily academic sessions, students who are good at a subject or concept float a mailer to the whole batch informing them about the session that he/she is going to conduct on a topic. And let me make it clear that such late-night sessions and discussions are a common sight at IIM Shillong.
I mean in the world which is ruthless and is known for cutthroat competition among the peers, how often do we get to see a situation in which the whole batch is caring, thinking and working hard for the development of its peers. Business leaders and business schools these days often stress upon inclusive growth and inclusive learning, but IIM Shillong is the institute which practices inclusive learning and growth. These qualities make my institute and batches unique, and I am proud to be a part of it.
Aditya Birla Group
To have one of the largest Indian multinational conglomerates like Aditya Birla Group as a campus recruiter, the college and the students should be a group of people who are unique and as a batch believes in some set of principles and values. To talk more about these principles and values that we, students of IIM Shillong possess, I would select the question
Each subsidiary of Aditya Birla Group is unique and has developed into a brand on its own. I would like to be associated with Grasim Industries. The company which is not only as old as independent India but also diversified has varied interests in businesses like cement, textiles, NBFC’s & viscose staple fiber. Having a chance to work is such companies will provide me the opportunity to work in diversified fields. As an individual who likes exciting and challenging work, what can be a better opportunity than to work in Grasim Industries along with exciting peers and under the leadership of visionary leaders?
