IIM Shillong - Managing Business With Nature

Have you ever dreamt of sleeping at night and waking up to a morning filled with white misty clouds floating in the sea of blue sky and lush green background so soothing and picture perfect that you want to pinch yourself to make sure you are not dreaming? You surely must have! Just a year ago, it all seemed a dream to me too until I made my way to our very own campus in the cloud at IIM Shillong. Now it is all a part of my daily life.

The campus is situated in such a beautiful location surrounded by nature and the environment in its purest form that you open your eyes in the morning and you have the gorgeous mountain range with trees and clouds in front you, you brush your teeth and you have a background worth a million-dollars vacation around you. An environ so relaxing that it immediately makes you forget all the hard work, toil that the management study demands.

The temporary campus of IIM Shillong established by transforming the Mayurbhanj palace is a place to recharge both the mind and the soul. If the surrounding nature is good for your mental health, the hilly terrain on which the campus is built challenges your physical capabilities. A round of the entire campus every morning is said to be equivalent to almost an hour of working out in the gym.

The campus is not at all easily accessible. You have to first come to Guwahati and then take a 3-4 hours drive to reach the campus. But like it is said “it is the journey and not the destination that counts” Well in this case, both the destination and the journey that you set on to reach it are so mesmerizing that you almost forget those 3 hours of your life and get teleported to a world worthy of being an artist's dream work

After the sun sets, the night emerges but the campus continues to dazzle you with its beauty. Remember how in our childhood we used to gaze at the night sky full of twinkling stars? People living under the blanket of pollution in today's urban cities might have forgotten all about it, but the IIM Shillong campus offers you a chance to find that astronomer in you and identify the Venus, the constellations, the Milky way etc.

This is my campus at IIM Shillong- where the true beauty is respected, nurtured and protected, where every stone every plant every flower is a piece of the beauty puzzle that no camera can ever capture. It is something you experience, you feel and that is what makes it so unique!

Coming from India, no other brand in the sector has been able to reach the heights that the fashion and retail business of the ABG has been able to reach. Getting into such an established business of ABG is going to be both a challenge as well as an opportunity. The opportunity presented would be in terms of the recognition that the brand is going to bring with itself and challenge posed would be to not just sustain but also to surpass the present performance of the brand. However, the sector is currently booming and the demand for the Indian clothing is on the rise not just domestically but in abroad as well. Therefore, I would be extremely honoured to work with the Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited.
