Popularly known as Campus in the clouds, this place mesmerized me right when I set foot in it. The lush green hillock with IIM SHILLONG written on it, instilled a sense of pride in me. The campus resonated with positivity all around. After months of hard work I was finally at an IIM, that too the most beautiful one.
My campus is not beautiful for me solely because of its natural beauty; it’s beautiful for me because of its soul. And the most important part of the soul are its people. People who come together with one another in every situation. People who help you with 40kgs of luggage though you haven’t greeted them before. People who love you and care for you as a family even before you get a chance to know their names. And an inspiration for the soul of this institute is India’s Missile Man – Dr. APJ Abdul Kalam.
In his speech at IIT Hyderabad in 2011, Dr. Kalam had articulated his vision for India. Coming across that speech as a teenager in my formative years, left a deep impact on my mind. Dr. Kalam highlighted three visions that he had for India – of freedom, development, and India standing up to the world. He talked about how we as Indians, always keep pointing fingers at the government and the laws, but never really do much to bring about change. However, the same Indians who blame the system become ideal citizens in a foreign country respecting that land and its laws.
Just as Mahatma Gandhi said, “be the change that you wish to see in the world”, Dr. Kalam’s speech made me realize that one day the whole system will change only if we take the first step towards it. As a young adult now, I am here to take a step towards my dream of contributing to build a better India by being a part of IIM SHILLONG, which will develop me holistically as an individual and enable me to have a greater role in shaping the nation and its economy.

The ABG Company that I would like to work for is Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail (ABFRL). A collection of the biggest brands including Louis Philippe, Peter England, People, Forever 21, and Pantaloons, ABFRL has maintained its standing with ~2,500 exclusive brand outlets across 700 cities and ~22 million loyalty members. I believe being a part of this esteemed establishment, which is an epitome of how various brands positioned differently can be successfully managed, will provide me an opportunity to hone and utilize my skills in the strategy and marketing domain and contribute positively towards its growth.
