The relationship between teachers and students can never be put into words. A teacher is a mentor, a friend, a guide. It is perhaps the strongest relationship, built over years of hardships and efforts that a teacher puts in to make the best out of his/her pupil. We, at IIM Shillong, acknowledge this effort, and hence, just like any other festival, every year the 5th of September is celebrated with vigour and enthusiasm. This year too, the students put up a great show, to show their love and respect for their beloved teachers.
The teacher’s day event started with a short prayer, devoted to our Gurus. The program was graced by all the faculty members along with their families. The program commenced with performances by the talented kids of our professors and was followed by the performances of the students, both senior and junior batch including a semi-classical dance number, an electrifying Garba performance, and several melodious singing performances.
Now was the chance for the faculties to show their hidden talents. Anurag Duggar sir, the most feared marketing professor of our college, climbed up the stage. The auditorium was quiet, and everyone was anticipating a monologue when Anurag sir surprised us all by presenting a romantic
shayari! Then, Joshi ma’am recited a beautiful poem, to bring to light the significant role that a teacher plays in the lives of the students.
Our professors are extremely creative, so we had an Antakshri competition, with a twist. The audience was divided into three teams, and each team comprised of students as well as teachers. In the first round, the teams were asked to pick up a piece of paper which had certain words written in it. The teams were required to sing a song using that word. In the next round, the teams were given a celebrity couple and were asked to sing a song on them. With so much talent in one room, the competition was tough, but we had a clear winner. The team led by Duggar sir won the game.
The event was concluded with a ‘thank you note’ by our very own IT genius, Basav sir. With music on, everyone took to the stage and danced around. We had a gala time, celebrating one of the most revered days at IIM Shillong.
