IIM Shillong is the 7th Indian Institute of Management set up by the government in the year 2008. Even though part of the broader IIM family, it is the uniqueness of the place i.e. Shillong, which makes this campus different from any other B-school across the country.
Shillong is nested in the lap of nature. It is known for its waterfalls, pine trees and the mesmerising beauty that takes away everyone’s breath. The past one year has simply been an attempt to understand this unique place while trying to decode the management jargons and understanding how to deal with the complex business problems. IIM Shillong is not just a B-school that teaches you how to be a good manager but a campus that teaches you how to be a better person who is ready to solve the complexities of the business world.
I still remember the first day when I entered the gates of this college and little did I knew at that time that I was signing up for a roller-coaster ride where I would learn the importance of time and make such wonderful friends while being part of a study group which is randomly formed by the PGP office.
There is no denying that life in a B-school is tough and IIM Shillong being no exception threw at us various challenges right from the day one. The journey began with the gruelling induction sessions of various committees and the academic rigour which pushes you to your limits. We learnt the value of time and initially sleep became almost a precious commodity. But despite all the odds, what made this journey a lot easy was the unity of the entire batch which I witnessed in the first week of being in the campus. It is a campus which is mainly driven by the students. Students take charge of almost everything right from the clubs and committees to assisting each other in coping with the academic pressure. It is in IIM Shillong where students who have expertise in a particular subject take classes for their batch mates in the mid-night to help them in grasping the concepts that they are weak at. The best part is that once you are part of the college, you are part of a larger family and this relationship is not simply limited to the walls of the college but remains intact whole throughout one’s life.
Aditya Birla Group
Being someone who has a deep passion for marketing, I would love work for Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited if given an opportunity. Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited would offer me an opportunity to work with a business that is known in the industry for its famous clothing brands such as such as Louis Philippe, Van Heusen, Peter England etc. It would also offer me an opportunity to interact with various stakeholders and apply the concepts learnt as part of my MBA course curriculum. I deeply feel that there is a lot of scope for growth in the fashion industry and there are few market players like Aditya Birla Fashion and Retail Limited who can capitalise on this opportunity to its fullest.
